  • Why bet on the Ducks?

Under Mario Cristobal, Oregon is a much different team than what it used to be. There have been a lot of changes, and Cristobal has brought in plenty of new talent, some of which will likely make it to the NFL as is the case with quarterback Justin Herbert.

There’s no question the Ducks will not dominate the Pac-12, but whether or not they have enough to beat Auburn in the opening game is open to argument.

The point is, the SEC has dominated the Pac-12. Since 2010, the SEC and Pac-12 have played 14 games, of which the SEC is 10-4 ATS including 6-0 ATS in games played at neutral sites.

For the Ducks to win, Bo Nix will have to crumble under pressure, and Justin Herbert will have to a great game.

    Why bet on the Tigers?

There are a whole bunch of returning starters in the Auburn offense. The O-line wasn’t anything to write home about, and it begs the question of whether or not they have improved.

Oregon will test Auburn’s offensive line with outstanding defensive players. Whether or not the Ducks have a disruptive defenseman in the ranks is up to question, so the Tigers may have an opportunity to get the offense going.

Auburn let everyone down last year, ending with a disappointing 8-win season. The Tigers were eliminated from the postseason in the SEC West in losing to LSU, Mississippi State, and Tennessee.

This season won’t be any easier for the Tigers as they have a brutal schedule. So winning over Oregon will go a long way for Auburn once they get to SEC play. Facing teams such as Georgia, Florida, and, of course, LSU and Alabama, is a grueling gauntlet and the Tigers need to start well.

But, the most critical question to ask is, how will true freshman Bo Nix fare? This first game will be telling, and even though it’s his first game, there is a lot of expectations for him to perform well. Should he crumble under pressure, folks will be asking if all of the hooplas was just a whole bunch of hot air.

    Betting Trends

Insider Prediction: For as much as Oregon has improved, Auburn needs to win this game. And even though Nix is pretty much an unknown, I believe he’ll do well. Auburn wins, but it’ll be close.

    Pick: Auburn -3
