Washington is out of the running in the Pac-12 North, but this game still has some consequence.

A Cougars win sends them to the Pac-12 championship, but if Washington wins Stanford shows for the North.

The early odds have the Huskies as the big 9-point favorites, which shouldn’t be surprising as you’ll see in a moment.

The Cougars are ranked better than the Huskies, albeit not by much. Washington State has also defeated three Associated Press Top 25 teams.

So, why are the Huskies the favorites?

Because WSU hasn’t won the Apple Cup since 2012, in fact, they’ve been owned by the Huskies the past three years running: Washington won 31-13 in 2014, 45-10 in 2015 and 45-17 last season.

If history holds true, then betting on Washington should be a no-brainer. I don’t see this trend bucking.

The Wolverines are knocked out of winning the Big Ten East, but they can still throw a big wrench in the Buckeye’s plans to a spot in the College Football Playoff.

So that means that for the Wolverines, it all comes down to this game and they’ll give it everything they’ve got to win.

However, Jim Harbaugh’s squad hasn’t had much success in defeating the Buckeyes. The Wolverines are 5-0 against Michigan and this time around winning won’t come any easier.

The Buckeyes will come out blazing. Since their loss to Iowa a couple of weeks ago, Ohio State shook up things and went on to defeat Michigan State (48-3) and Illinois (52-14) and there’s nothing to say they’ll slow down the pace.

Meyer has his boys focused on the task ahead, and for him, that means defeating the team up north.

Despite the Crimson Tide rolling over opponents this season, they head into this game as the small betting favorites at 4.5 points.

This is a game that has plenty of implications for both teams, which means we’re likely in for a treat.

If Alabama wins, they’ll find themselves in the College Football Playoff for the third straight year.

If Auburn wins, they’ll get to play Georgia in the SEC Championship game and might even make a run to the playoff.

Can Auburn beat the Tide though? They may, but it’s not likely.

Regardless, I believe that whichever team can win the battle on the ground will likely win the game.
