Top Five College Football Games For Opening Weekend

Top Five 2019 College Football Games Opening Weekend

It’s the start of a new college football season, and the betting board is packed with a ton of games this weekend. Keep reading to get some betting angles in our top five games of opening weekend.

Oregon vs. Auburn

  • When: August 31, 2019, 7:30 PM ET
  • Where: AT&T Stadium
  • College Football Lines 2019: Auburn -4
  • Over/Under: 55.5
  • Moneyline: Oregon +150 vs. Auburn -135

Analysis: This game is a battle between two top-25 teams that will likely move the winner towards the top 10. The Ducks are closer at No. 11 in the AP Poll, and they have the talents of NFL hopeful Justin Herbert.

Oregon could make it to the Rose Bowl if Herbert stays healthy, but it’s the start of the season, and anything could happen. Auburn has a grueling schedule with top teams such as Texas A&M, Florida, LSU, Georgia, and Alabama following this game.

True freshman quarterback Bo Nix will have a lot of pressure on his shoulders to perform. He may fold under with such expectations. Herbert is top talent, and he has the experience behind him, so I like Oregon.

Betting Trends

  • Auburn is 4-2 ATS in their last six games.
  • The total has gone UNDER in 12 of Auburn's last 16 games.
  • Oregon is 4-1 SU in their last five games.
  • Oregon is 1-4 ATS in their last five games played on a Saturday.

Pick: Ducks +4

Georgia vs. Vanderbilt

  • When: August 31, 2019, 7:30 PM ET
  • Where: Vanderbilt Stadium
  • College Football Lines 2019: Georgia -22
  • Over/Under: 58
  • Moneyline: Georgia -1400 vs. Vanderbilt +935

Analysis: Because it’s Labor Day weekend, a lot of the Georgia fans will take the trip to Nashville. That means the Bulldogs won’t have to contend with Vanderbilt’s crowd on their own.

The Bulldogs also have a 13-game winning streak in division play on the line so it should be an excellent game to watch.

Last season, the Bulldogs lost the SEC title game to Alabama and then the Sugar Bowl to Texas, and they’ll want to start this season strong.

As far as Vanderbilt, they finished last season 6-7 and went to a bowl for the second time in three years under coach Derek Mason. The Commodores will be a formidable test for the Bulldogs, but I think Georgia will win and cover.

Betting Trends

  • Georgia is 5-2 ATS in their last seven games.
  • The total has gone OVER in 6 of Georgia's last eight games.
  • Vanderbilt are 1-11 SU in their last 12 games when playing at home against Georgia.
  • Vanderbilt are 5-0 ATS in their last five games against an opponent in the Southeast Conference.

Pick: Bulldogs -22

Oklahoma vs. Houston

  • When: September 01, 2019, 7:30 PM ET
  • Where: Gaylord Family Oklahoma Memorial Stadium
  • College Football Lines 2019: Oklahoma -23
  • Over/Under: 80
  • Moneyline: Houston +850 vs. Oklahoma -1250

Analysis: Oklahoma quarterbacks have been hogging the Heisman Trophy, and Jalen Hurts to be its third winner so he’ll likely want to come out gunning in this game.

Hurts may not be of the caliber of Baker Mayfield or Kyler Murray, but he can hold his own and shares the third spot in the odds to win the Heisman at +1200.

Even if Hurts lost his spot to Bama’s Tua Tagovailoa, he’s still one of the top quarterbacks in the nation. And, Hurts has plenty of talent surrounding him enough to make him shine.

Houston will try to make this game count, and if they manage to slow down Hurts, they may have a shot at covering. I’m betting they do.

Betting Trends

  • Houston is 1-4 ATS in their last five games.
  • The total has gone OVER in 6 of Houston's last seven games.
  • Oklahoma is 7-1 SU in their last eight games.
  • Oklahoma is 10-0 SU in their last ten games at home.

Pick: Cougars +23

Northwestern vs. Stanford

  • When: August 31, 2019, 4:00 PM ET
  • Where: Stanford Stadium
  • College Football Lines 2019: Stanford -6.5
  • Over/Under: 47.5
  • Moneyline: Northwestern +200 vs. Stanford -240

Analysis: The expectations for the Cardinal aren’t as high as they’ve been in the last years. The season win total for Stanford is set at 6.5 even though the team hasn’t won less than seven games in a season since 2008.

There’s still nothing on who the Wildcats will start with at the quarterback position, but it’s a two-way battle between Hunter Johnson and TJ Green. I favor the Wildcats on the points despite not knowing who will lead the offense.

Betting Trends

  • Northwestern is 8-2 SU in their last ten games.
  • Northwestern is 8-0 SU in their last eight games on the road.
  • Stanford is 4-1 SU in their last five games.
  • Stanford is 12-2 SU in their last 14 games at home.

Pick: Wildcats +6.5

Fresno State vs. USC

  • When: August 31, 2019, 10:30 PM ET
  • Where: Los Angeles Memorial Coliseum
  • College Football Lines 2019: USC -13.5
  • Over/Under: 52.5
  • Moneyline: Fresno State +455 vs. USC -560

Analysis: USC faces a tough opponent in the Mountain West champion, Fresno State. Coach Clay Helton’s future at USC is on the line after the Trojans had its first losing season since 2000.

USC doesn’t even find itself in the AP Top 25 after having finished the season last year at 5-7. But, they won’t have it easy against the Bulldogs, who have won 21 of its previous 25 games.

However, Fresno State has only won one out of the five games these two teams have played, so I’m siding with the Trojans to pick themselves back up and get back to their winning ways.

Betting Trends

  • Fresno State are 15-4 ATS in their last 19 games.
  • The total has gone UNDER in 6 of Fresno State's last six games.
  • Southern California is 1-5 SU in their last six games.
  • Southern California is 17-3 SU in their last 20 games at home.

Pick: USC -13.5
