2018 NFL Betting Odds For The NFC West

You are here

The L.A. Rams and San Francisco 49ers have garnered attention this year, with some folks predicting they can make it to Super Bowl 53. However, the odds to win the NFC West have changed for some teams since the beginning of the preseason. What do you think, will an NFC West team make it far into the postseason and beyond? Check out some predictions below.

Early NFC West Betting Lines & Predictions

Who’s The Favorite?

At -150, the Los Angeles Rams are the clear favorite to win the West. It’s like this for a reason; last season, the Rams’ offense was great, this year they could be even better. Under head coach, Sean McVeigh’s direction, RB Todd Gurley and QB Jared Goff thrived and they can only get better this year with a year’s experience under their belts. It’s not often you see a team go from worst to first in scoring and the Rams accomplished that, so it’ll be interesting to see how they fare this season.

The Rams have also brought in what could be the best cornerback duos in the NFL. Aqib Talib and Marcus Peters are as good as they come in their position and they’ll shut down any attempt to get one over them. Not only that, they also brought in Brandin Cooks, Ndamukong Suh, and Sam Shields.

But, bringing in these two didn’t come without a price and the Rams will have to do without one of their best defensive ends last year, Robert Quinn. They also won’t have Alec Ogletree, Sammy Watkins, and Trumaine Johnson.

What about the San Francisco 49ers?

The Niners have a +250 moneyline to win the NFC West at the moment ($100 bet wins $250) and they’ve made some restructuring that could make a big difference this season. First, Jimmy Garoppolo is a great quarterback who went 5-0 last season as a starter with the San Fran.

The 49ers also drafted OT Mike McGlinchey in the first round of the 2018 NFL Draft and he could keep rushers from getting to Garoppolo up the middle. He could also open up the lanes for RB Jerrick McKinnon to do some heavy damage on the ground as he did last season when he was with the Vikings. Pierre Garcon, Jerick McKinnon, and George Kittle could also make some waves on offense.

On the defensive side, linebacker Reuben Foster could turn out to be a great redemption story now that his substance abuse and conduct troubles are behind him albeit being suspended for the first two games of the 2018 regular season. Solomon Thomas, Ahkello Witherspoon, Jacquiski Tartt, and Richard Sherman could turn into San Francisco’s own Legion of Boom.

And The Seattle Seahawks?

Prior to last season, the Seahawks were the team to beat in the NFC West as the division winners in three out of the previous four seasons. But, their reign in the West is at an end and don’t keep your hopes up that they’ll get far this season because they’ve lost a ton of talent and are in the process of rebuilding.

Russell Wilson will get some help with Rashaad Penny in the backfield and an improved offensive line. Wilson will have to do without Jimmy Graham and Paul Richardson, who have both gone.

On defense, the Legion of Boom is no more and they’ll be missing some grizzled veterans which might further affect things.

What About The Arizona Cardinals?

If you’re eyeing the Cardinals, you’re looking at a long-shot at best. But, the moneyline (+1200) doesn’t give them much credit and seems high so you might want to lay some money in what could turn out to be a good bet.

Sam Bradford comes in to replace Palmer at QB, but he’s so prone to injury that you’ll probably see Josh Rosen thrown into the fire. If Bradford stays healthy though, the Cardinals could give the fight.
