2019 Preseason Week 1: Titans vs. Eagles – Game Preview and Odds Analysis

You are here

  • The Eagles open at home as a 3.5-point favorite. The Over/Under is at 37.
  • Philadelphia also edges out Tennessee in the odds to win Super Bowl 54 at +1500. The Titans have a +5000 moneyline.

Though it’s unlikely we’ll see the starting quarterbacks for either team, preseason games help with gauging what to expect for the regular season. The Eagles open as favorites at home, but will Tennessee get off to a fast start as they did last year? Let’s take a look.

Meanwhile, Carson Wentz is the Eagles man at center. But with Wentz’ past troubles with injuries, it’s unlikely you’ll see him get any playtime. Despite this, the Eagles are still the favorites to win this game. Let’s take a brief look at what you can expect.

Why Bet on the Titans?

Last year, the Titans almost pulled off a comeback to make it to the playoffs. But Tennessee let the wild card slip through their fingers in the last week of the season with a loss to Indianapolis.

Tennessee relies on their man at center to pull them through games, but it’s Marcus Mariota’s last season in Tennessee under his current contract which means there might be a fight brewing between Mariota and the newly-hired Ryan Tannehill.

We probably won’t see Mariota on the field for this game but, if Tannehill plays, we might get a glimpse of how he fares in taking a back seat to Mariota.

Team Offense Stats

  • 19.38 Total Score
  • 185.94 Passing Yards
  • 126.44 Rushing Yards
  • 29:46 Time on Field
  • 58.62 Number of Plays
  • 5.33 Yards per Play

Why Bet on the Eagles?

It would be hard to argue against Carson Wentz’ abilities and stature as one of the league’s elite quarterbacks. But, the question is whether or not he can stay healthy for an entire season.

Each of the last two seasons, the Eagles’ QB was injured, which didn’t turn into a mess because Nick Foles was a pretty decent backup. The problem is Foles has moved on to Jacksonville, so the Eagles better pray Wentz gets some divine intervention to stay uninjured.

Regardless, Philadelphia has successfully made it through the playoffs in the past two seasons despite Wentz’ ailments including, of course, winning a Super Bowl title.

Don’t get your hopes up of seeing Wentz take the field. But backups Nate Sudfield, Clayton Thorson, and Cody Kessler should provide an exciting matchup.

Team Offense Stats

  • Total Score 22.06
  • Passing Yards 263.00
  • Rushing Yards 92.28
  • Time on Field 31:57
  • Number of Plays 63.78
  • Yards per Play 5.57

Betting Trends

  • Tennessee is 2-5 ATS in their last seven games.
  • The total has gone OVER in 5 of Tennessee's last six games.
  • Tennessee is 4-1 SU in their last five games.
  • Philadelphia is 4-0-1 ATS in their last five games.
  • The total has gone UNDER in 8 of Philadelphia's last 12 games.
  • Philadelphia is 4-1 SU in their last five games.

Insider Prediction: Preseason games are an excellent way to ramp up players for the regular season. But, though you won’t see most of the starters take the field, I see the home team having the advantage.

Pick: Eagles -3.5
