Why Should(not) You Bet on the Giants?

The Giants are double-digit dogs, but the question is, will they cover at +17? That depends on whether Saquon Barkley plays or not. Not even Barkley knows if he’s playing Thursday night.

But, if Barkley does play, it changes things for the Giants, and for whether the game will not turn into a blowout loss. Saquan’s high-ankle injury, though, typically takes a lengthy recovery period for most people. So I wouldn’t keep my hopes up.

If Barkley doesn’t play, then don’t expect to back the Giants, even at +17 points, being a good bet to make. Without a good running back, the Giants’ backfield doesn’t amount to anything any defense cannot stop, let alone the Patriots’.

Oh, there’s also Tom Brady on the other side. Do you think Brady isn’t licking his chops right now? The Giants defense wasn’t able to stop the Vikings’ pass offense, and you think they’ll stop Brady’s?

Why Should(not) You Bet on the Patriots?

The Patriots crushing the Redskins last week 33-7 isn’t the story you should pay attention to for betting on New England covering at -17. The real story is what the Patriots’ defense will do to a rookie quarterback at Gillette Stadium.

“The Boogeymen” will live up to their nickname. New England’s linebacker squad, is Halloween scary. Dont’a Hightower, Jamie Collins, and Kyle Van Noy are killers. Between them, they’ve racked up nine sack and 57 tackles. Do you think they won’t go after the Giants’ offense? They have a reputation.

Even without a Julian Edelman at full health, Brady and the rest of the offense will punish the Giants’ defense. The biggest problem for betting the Patriots -17 isn’t that they’ll lose, it’s whether Bill Belichick will play a conservative game to avoid injuries.
