How To Bet Lions at Texans - Odds, Pick & Betting Preview

Detroit Lions vs. Houston Texans
  • After a bad start in their first preseason game against the Patriots, the Lions must play better and smarter football. Detroit has allowed 30 or more points in four of their five exhibition games under Matt Patricia.
  • Houston failed to cover the spread as a 1-point underdog against the Green Bay Packers last week. QB Deshaun Watson did not play in the first game despite injuries in the Texans quarterback roster.

Betting on the Lions?

Matt Patricia has said the Lions need to play better, smarter football which is an understatement as Detroit has given up more than 30 points in four of their five exhibition games.

In their week 1 game against the Patriots, Bill Belichick’s crew slapped a 31-3 beating where backup quarterbacks Tom Savage and David Fales combined to throw for just 102 yards and no touchdowns. They were also sacked an embarrassing nine combined times.

Defensively, the Lions weren’t any better as they allowed 326 passing yards and three touchdown passes while giving up 133 rushing yards along with another touchdown.

Betting on the Texans?

AJ McCarron should have been on the field for much of the Texans first preseason game, but a thumb injury sent their third-stringer to take all of the snaps against Green Bay.

Despite a good fight against the Packers, Houston lost 28-26 in their week 1 game. Veteran QB Joe Webb III gave an excellent performance, passing for 286 yards with one touchdown and two interceptions. Starter DeShaun Watson sat out the entire game but should see some playing time in this game.

Betting Trends

  • The total has gone UNDER in 8 of Detroit's last eight games.
  • Detroit is 3-8 SU in their last 11 games.
  • The total has gone UNDER in 4 of Detroit's last five games on the road.
  • Houston is 11-4 SU in their last 15 games.
  • The total has gone UNDER in 4 of Houston's last five games at home.
  • The total has gone OVER in 4 of Houston's last five games against an opponent in the NFC conference.

Insider Prediction: I doubt Matt Stafford will see a lot of playing time. That leaves Tom Savage and David Fales to get the job done for the Lions, and, frankly, they sucked in the first game.

On the other hand, though DeShaun Watson won’t likely see much time on the field either, backup Joe Webb showed he could do a decent job of things. Houston is the better team and they’ll not only win but cover, too.

Pick: Texans -4.5
