Should You Bet on the Patriots?

Yes, the Patriots, perhaps unsurprisingly, are 6-0. But, New England is a pretty banged up crew, and this game could turn into a trap.

Tom Brady will have to do without Josh Gordon, who looks to be still injured. While Gordon’s absence won’t break the Patriots’ offense, especially not against the Jets, it will put more pressure on an already stressed squad.

The Jets are also running on the high of Sam Darnold’s return, but New England’s defense could stop New York cold. Darnold looked good in the Jets’ last game, but the Patriots are the top-ranked defensive unit in the league.

After boasting about Darnold’s performance last week, I can’t think of anything better or more satisfying for the Patriots defense than to be his boogeyman. Just in time for Halloween, not the least.

Should You Bet on the Jets?

Sam Darnold, don’t you know better than not to boast before the work is done? Even if the Jets offense is nothing to sneeze at, the Patriots defense isn’t exactly a pushover.

But, if Darnold running the offense get players such as Le’Veon Bell and Robby Anderson to play at their best, well, then there’s a game. Darnold will have to earn his salt, and this game is perhaps his trial by fire.

The Jets have an advantage on defense. The Patriots’ offense is missing key players on their offensive line, and this means more opportunities to get to Brady. Plus, Brady is missing his primary receiver and safety Jamal Adams can wreak havoc to Brady’s plans.

Insider Prediction:  Betting this game is not a matter of whether the Patriots will win. While you could entertain the notion of a Jets pulling off an upset win, that’s not likely to happen.

The question is whether the banged-up Patriots offense can cover at -10, and can the Darnold led Jets offense hold up against New England’s defense.

I’m still banking on tried and true; I’m taking the Patriots.

Pick: Patriots -10
