2015 Waste Management Phoenix Open

2015 Waste Management Phoenix Open

The Phoenix Open, also known as "The Greatest Show on Grass," kicks off this week in Scottsdale, Arizona, with some of the biggest names in golf expected to participate. The tournament, which takes place at TPC Scottsdale, will field a total of 132 players, with a combined total of 385 wins, and 15 majors between them.

Some of the big names that will be playing in the tournament are Zach Johnson, Lucas Glover, Angel Cabrera, Matt Kuchar, Jason Dufner, Keegan Bradley, Jordan Spieth, and Tiger Woods, who will be playing in his first tournament of the year, and making his first appearance at the Phoenix Open since 2001. The list of participants also includes three time winner Phil Mickelson, as well as former champions Kyle Stanley, J.B. Holmes, Kenny Perry, Mark Wilson, Aaron Baddely, and Hunter Mahan.

After 10 events this season, the 2014-2015 FedEx Cup standings leaders are:

  1. Jimmy Walker 957 points
  2. Robert Streb 814 Points
  3. Charlie Hoffman 742 points.
  4. Sang-Moon Bae 721 points.
  5. Ben Martin 655 points.
  6. Patrick Reed 635 points.
  7. Bubba Watson 625 points.
  8. Ryan Moore 591 points.
  9. Bill Hass 566 points.
  10. Scott Piercy 525 points.

Last year, Kevin Stadler won the tournament by 1 stroke over Bubba Watson and Graham DeLaet, giving him his first career PGA Tour win, and fans will be hoping for another exciting finish to the tournament this year. Here are some of the favorites to win the 2015 Waste Management Phoenix Open.

Bubba Watson

Watson had a chance to send the final into a playoff last year, but he bogeyed the 18th hole, and had to settle for second place. He has played in three events this season, and has one win and two top 10 finishes this year, making him a favorite to win the event at 14-1.

Jordan Spieth

Despite not winning a tournament last year, the 21 year old Texan had an impressive season, he had eight top 10 finishes, which included a 2nd place finish at the Masters, and entered this season with high expectations. He has already picked up his second career victory on the PGA Tour with a win at the Hero World Challenge in December, and is a favorite to win his second tournament of the year at 14-1.

Matt Kuchar

Kuchar didn't play in the tournament last year, but he finished the year with 11 top 10 finishes, and one win. He has continued playing well so far this year, and finished 2nd in the Humana Challenge last week, after a 3rd place finish at the Sony Open, a week prior. His odds of winning this tournament is 20-1.

Tiger Woods

Even though he is playing for the first time in 2015, and hasn't won a tournament since August 2013, Woods once again enters a tournament as one of the favorites to win it all. He finished 17th in the Hero World Challenge in December, and will need a better performance to win the Phoenix open for the first time. His odds of winning the tournament is 20-1.

Phil Mickelson

The three time Phoenix Open winner had a disappointing 2014 season, with only one top 10 finish in 21 events, and is looking to bounce back with a few wins this season. He finished 24th last week at the Humana Challenge, which was his first event of the year, and will try to build on that with a win in Phoenix. His odds of winning the tournament is 22-1.

My Pick: Matt Kuchar has been playing well this month, and has come close to winning in his last two events, which is why i think he will finally get over the hump and win his first tournament of the year.
