The Players Championship Preview and Odds to Win the Tournament

2014 The Players Championship

The world’s best golfers are in Ponte Vedra Beach, Florida for The Players Championship. Rory McIlroy and Adam Scott are the top two players on the odds board with Matt Kuchar the third choice. Let’s look at the tournament that is oftentimes referred to as golf’s fifth major and golf picks.

Top Players

A total of 46 of the world’s top 50 players are in the field this week. The only two players of note not in the field are Tiger Woods and Jason Day and they are out due to injury. The favorites are McIlroy and Scott. McIlroy has been playing well this season and Scott is ranked second in the world. It is really a who’s who of golfers this week as the field really looks like what you see in a major.

Rory McIlroy

Even though he has not won much of late, McIlroy continues to play well. He has had five top ten finishes this season. He tied for 8th last week even though he had one bad round. When he puts together four good rounds he is going to dominate a tournament and it might just be this week.

Adam Scott

He has not won this event in a decade but he is playing as well as any golfer right now. He has finished in the Top 20 in his last two events at TPC Sawgrass.

Matt Kuchar

He didn’t play last week but two weeks ago he won the RBC Heritage. He has finished in the top five in four straight tournaments and he won this event in 2012.

Golf Picks

I will go with Rory McIlroy at odds of about 15-1. I also like Jim Furyk who is listed with odds of more than 30-1. Furyk is playing really well of late with a second last week. He has eight top 25 finishes at The Players Championship. For my two longshots this week I will go with Jason Dufner and Kevin Na. Each should be listed with golf odds of more than 60-1.
