Valero Texas Open 2014 Prediction and Picks on March 27, 2014

Valero Texas Open 2014

Four of the world’s top 15 players are in the field for this week’s Valero Texas Open. Phil Mickelson, Matt Kuchar, Jordan Spieth and Zach Johnson are the top betting choices to win this week’s PGA Tour event. Also in contention could be Jimmy Walker who has already won twice this season on the PGA Tour.

Here is a look at the Valero Texas Open and golf betting odds at BetPhoenix sportsbook.

Although only four of the world’s top players are in the field there are some other big names in the event. Ernie Els, Padraig Harrington, Jim Furyk, David Toms and Mike Weir are in the field.

The AT&T Oaks Course at TPC San Antonio is a par 72 that really hasn’t been that popular with players. It has tight fairways, tough greens and deep bunkers. Martin Laird didn’t have any trouble in the final round last year though as he shot a course record-tying 63 to win by two shots.

Favorites

Phil Mickelson, Matt Kuchar, Jordan Spieth and Zach Johnson are almost co-favorites as each is listed with odds of about 15-1. Mickelson has the big name but he hasn’t played that well this year and he hasn’t played this event in more than two decades. Kuchar is normally in contention each week but he has also been a little off this season. Spieth is the young gun on the tour and the reigning Rookie of the Year while Johnson has won this event twice.

Other Contenders

You can definitely make a case for Jimmy Walker who has won twice this season the PGA Tour. Jim Furyk finished tied for third last year and since hitting the fairway is a big key he could be a threat to win this week.

Golf Predictions

Based on current form, the choice among the favorites is Jordan Spieth. It is a good week to take longshots as the field is more wide open than in some weeks. I will go with Jason Kokrak at big odds and I will also take a shot with Brendan Steele at big golf betting odds.
