UFC 248: Israel Adesanya vs. Yoel Romero

It’s time for the next bone-crunching MMA event as Israel Adesanya and Yoel Romero step into the Octagon for the Middleweight title in UFC 248. Can “Soldier of Fortune” Romero defeat “The Last Stylebender” and snatch the title from his hands? Keep reading for the fight analysis!

  • When: March 6, 2020, 9:00 PM ET
  • Where: T-Mobile Arena, Las Vegas, NV
  • UFC Betting Lines: Adesanya -275 vs. Romero +215

Analysis: Adesanya exploded into the UFC and went through opponents until he captured the belt. The Last Stylebender made it clear that he was the man to beat since he knocked out Robert Whittaker to win the title in October.

Adesanya wants to inscribe his name among the UFC all-time greats, and he’s willing to put up his recently acquired belt for grabs for any of the best in the division.

Romero is a beast of a fighter, and he’s an exciting matchup for Adesanya. Adesanya is the more technical fighter, wearing down fighters through a relentless swift attack; Romero relies on brute force and explosive power to demolish his opponents.

Adesanya has the upper hand in this combat; his technical abilities, kickboxing background, and body type should allow him to keep Romero at a distance where the Cuban fighter is dangerous.

Romero can close out fights in a second with his power, but as has been the case in Adesanya’s previous matches, Stylebender won’t likely go into a close-up battle where he’s at a disadvantage.

Romero doesn’t have the best of cardio, either, but he claims on knocking out Adesanya quickly, and could well run out of gas in the first rounds of the fight.

Pick: Adesanya by KO in the 4th round.

Weili Zhang vs. Joanna Jedrzejczyk

  • UFC Odds: Zhang -190 vs. Jedrzejczyk +150

Analysis: The Zhang sensation shocked the UFC world by snatching the women’s strawweight title from Jessica Andrade in August.

The shocking part wasn’t only that Zhang won as the underdog; it was that it took her a whole 42 seconds after the bell rang in the first round to knockout Andrade.

But, the story goes back further because Zhang has gone on a 20-fight undefeated rampage since losing her initial fight as a pro. In winning the title, Zhang became the first Chinese UFC champion.

But, Joanna Jedrzejczyk isn’t one to stay quiet; the former titleholder got in Zhang’s face with plenty to say during media day. The controversy before the fight should make it more interesting.

Jedrzejczyk is arguably the most dominant champion in strawweight history. The Polish fighter defended the title five times before losing to Rose Namajunas; she returns to the division, attempting to take back the belt that made her in the UFC.

Jedrzejczyk is the grizzled veteran, and she knows how to grind it out to the championship round. Zhang is a knockout champion, there’s no question about that, but can she go the five rounds? I’m betting on the underdog.

Pick: Jedrzejczyk by decision.

Beneil Dariush vs. Drakkar Klose

  • UFC Odds: Dariush -167 vs. Klose +137

Analysis: Dariush is an explosive fighter who can jump on opponents for a fast finish with solid southpaw fundamentals and great jiu-jitsu.

But, Dariush’s quickness could land him in hot waters against Klose, who prefers to grind it out and work a tough fight.

If Dariush can avoid running out of steam in the first, he might be able to do some damage with his kicks until he gets an opening to finish off Klose with Jiu-Jitsu.

Pick: Dariush via submission.
