The Oklahoma City Thunder is a professional NBA basketball team based in Oklahoma City, Oklahoma. The Thunder competes in the NBA as a Western Conference, Northwest Division member. The Thunder was founded in 1967 as the Seattle SuperSonics, who joined the NBA as an expansion team. They relocated to Oklahoma in 2008 to become the only professional team in the State. The name Thunder refers to OKC being home to the Thunderbirds, the U.S. Army's 45th Infantry Division, guardsmen that were among the first to fight in both World War II and the Korean War.
They host their home games at the Paycom Center since their move to Oklahoma City in 2008. This indoor venue is located in the Bricktown neighborhood of Downtown Oklahoma City, and it's named after Paycom, a payroll and human resource technology company based in the city.
After their inaugural 1967 season, the franchise (as the Sonics) had their first winning season and playoff appearance in 1975, under coach Bill Russell, earned the fourth seed by finishing 43–39, defeating the Pistons in the first round, and then falling to the Warriors in the conference semifinals. They also made the playoffs in 1976, losing in the first round to the Suns, before Russell's departure after missing the playoffs in 1977. Coach Lenny Wilkens replaced Hopkins, improving the team's performance, finishing the season with 47–35, and making it to the finals, losing in 7 games to the Washington Bullets. They repeated the trip in 1979, this time serving the Bullets a revenge win, and winning their first title, with Dennis Johnson as the MVP. The Sonics would continue to be a powerhouse through the 80s and 90s, posting 17 winning seasons in the two decades, with 15 playoff appearances and a trip to the finals in 1996, losing to the powerful Chicago Bulls.
The 2000s were marked by struggles and the end of their eleven-year playoff streak. The team was successfully reconstructed with the guidance of Ray Allen and Rashard Lewis, winning the division with a 52-30 record and returning to the playoffs, where they lost the conference semifinals to the Spurs. But this return was short-lived despite drafting Kevin Durant. They traded Ray Allen and Rashard Lewis. Regardless of the decent squad, morale was low as negotiations with the city for a new ground broke down. Chairman and Starbucks CEO Howard Schultz failed to persuade state officials to fund a renovation for their arena, so the Sonics and its WNBA sister Seattle Storm were sold to an Oklahoma-based group led by Clay Bennett. After another failed attempt by Bennett to get government funding for a new venue, they notified the league a request to move to Oklahoma City, which was approved for the 2009 season.
The new Oklahoma City Thunder were quickly rebuilt, behind standouts Kevin Durant and Russell Westbrook, talking the Thunder to the playoffs after only one season in Oklahoma City. Their rapid climb took Oklahoma City to the conference finals in 2011 and 2014 and the finals in 2012, losing to the Miami Heat. Durant unexpectedly left the Thunder for the Warriors, prompting Oklahoma City to rebuild around Westbrook. While the team continued to deliver winning seasons and playoff appearances, the team lacked complementary players, ending with first-round playoff exits four seasons straight from 2017 to 2020.
The Thunder started 2020 under new coach Mark Daigneault with a rebuild in mind, trading Paul George, Russell Westbrook, and Jerami Grant. With plenty of more changes on and off the court, the Thunder starts the third year of their rebuild with a young core that continues to improve, with the expected highs and lows such an endeavor brings.

With a roster packed with ten 23-or-under prospects, coach Daigneault continues to develop for the future. With Shai Gilgeous-Alexander and recently drafted Josh Giddey, things should start to take shape for this reconstruction, but the Thunder will need more time to do things right.
Placing your Oklahoma City Thunder bets on BetPhoenix thru the NBA basketball season can be a profitable and fun endeavor, especially if you put in some time and research.
Oklahoma City Thunder Spreads
Point Spreads are a margin-of-victory bet that indicates an estimated game result. This is an example of an Oklahoma City Thunder Point Spread line:
Team Points Spread Odds
Oklahoma City Thunder +3
Chicago Bulls -3
In this case, the line indicates that the Chicago Bulls are the favorite to win by a margin of more than three points against the Oklahoma City Thunder. On the other side, the Thunder are the underdog and can lose by less than a three-point margin.
A small spread of 4 or fewer points means that the game is expected to be a close matchup, while a large spread of 5 or more points means that the favorite is expected to perform much better than the underdog.
People betting on the Thunder point spreads, as the underdog, expect them to lose by a margin under a 3-point spread, while those betting on the favorite expect the Chicago Bulls to win by over 3 points to cover the spread.
· Bulls win by four or more points: Bulls bettors win
· Bulls win by precisely 3 points: The bet is a push, and all wagers are refunded
· Bulls win by two points or less: Thunder bettors win
· Thunder win the game: Thunder bettors win
Oklahoma City Thunder Moneylines
The Oklahoma City Thunder Moneylines bet is the most straightforward option in sports betting. You simply bet on the team that you believe will win the game. There's a negative number for the favorite, or the team considered more likely to win, and a positive number for the underdog, or the team considered more likely to lose.
This is an example of an Oklahoma City Thunder Moneyline as it would be listed in BetPhoenix:
Team Moneyline
Oklahoma City Thunder +125
Chicago Bulls -150
Using this example, the Oklahoma City Thunder Moneyline would result as follows:
· Thunder Moneyline: For every $100 wagered on the Thunder +125, you would receive $125 if Oklahoma City wins the game.
· Bulls Moneyline: If you wagered to win $100 by betting on the Chicago Bulls -150, you would need to risk $150.
Thunder Moneylines and Thunder point spreads use the same information to estimate the relative strength of each team for this particular matchup. The greater the Moneyline numbers indicate a greater favorite or more significant underdog.
Oklahoma City Thunder Over/Under Totals
The Thunder Totals bet, or over/under bet, is a wager on the estimated combined score of the game, in which you bet on the total of points scored being higher or lower than the set value. You can bet the over, meaning you predict the score to be above the number, or the under, indicating that you expect the final score to be less than the estimate. The bet can also be a push if the final score equals exactly the estimate, in which case all bets are refunded. This is an example of an Oklahoma City Thunder Totals line as it would be listed in BetPhoenix:
Oklahoma City Thunder vs. Chicago Bulls
Total: 232.5
Over odds: -110
Under odds: -110
For every $1.10 risked on either option, you'd win $1.
Oklahoma City Thunder Parlays
Oklahoma City Thunder Parlays is a type of wager where you combine different single bets into one. This is very advantageous as the odds are increased substantially since all bets included as part of the parlay must win for the whole parlay to pay out.
You can combine different types of bets, like point spreads, moneylines, over/under totals, player props, and many other wagers. You can also choose between favorites and underdogs. BetPhoenix will increase your Oklahoma City Thunder Parlays odds and payout as more individual bets are added. Thunder parlays allow up to 10 single bets, including cross-sport bets, allowing you, for instance, to pair an NBA game bet with an NFL bet and a Soccer bet.
For example, we can combine the Oklahoma City Thunder Point Spread of +3 and the Over of 232.5. We can add other plays to the Thunder parlay, like the Denver Nuggets -4.5 against the Los Angeles Clippers and the Under 218.5, to make a 4-team Thunder Parlay.
Thunder Spread: +3 -110
Thunder Totals: Over 232.5 -110
Nuggets Spread: -4.5 -110
Nuggets Under: Under 218.5 -110
This 4-team Thunder Parlay would compound payout odds of +1228, well above 10x times your bet if you wagered on each line separately. For example, risking $50 would earn you a payout of $614.17, with these possible outcomes:
· Thunder Point Spread covers, Thunder over/under covers, and the other two lines in the parlay cover, so all bets cover: Win $614.17
· Thunder Point Spread pushes, Thunder over/under covers, and the other two lines in the parlay cover. The push is canceled, and it becomes a Thunder 3-team parlay: Win $297.9
· Thunder Point Spread covers, Thunder over/under doesn't cover, and the other two lines in the parlay cover. Loss: -$50
· Thunder Point Spread covers, Thunder over/under covers, and any of the other two lines in the parlay fail to cover. Loss: -$50
Any lost pick within the parlay selection constitutes a loss.

Oklahoma City Thunder Teasers
A teaser is a grouping of multiple bets combined into one single bet. The difference between teasers and parlays is that with Thunder teasers, the lines are moved in your favor by the number of points given by the teaser.
Oklahoma City Thunder Teasers often start at 4 points and can go up to 5 points. Available Teasers on BetPhoenix include:
4 points Teasers for 2 to 8 Teams
4.5 points Teasers for 2 to 8 Teams
5 points Teasers for 2 to 8 Teams
7 points Teaser for 3 Teams
9 points Teaser for 4 Teams
One of the most popular Teasers is the 2-team 4-point that has the same payout as a regular -110 wager.
Thunder Teasers are attractive for giving you a significant advantage with a much more favorable line, but that comes at a cost in terms of the payout opportunities.
Based on the previous example, we can tease the same picks of the parlay we made previously in a 4-team 4.5-point Thunder teaser would be as follows:
Original Lines vs. Teased lines (with 4.5 points in your favor)
Thunder Spread: +3 to +7.5
Thunder Totals: Over 232.5 to 228
Nuggets Spread: -4.5 to PK
Nuggets Under: Under 218.5 to 223
In the hypothetical case of the Thunder losing the game 117-113 (+4/230), the Thunder odds and the Over failed to cover the original point spreads but would win on the 4-team 4.5-point Teaser, as they would cover the new +7.5 point spread and the Over 228 points.
Note that on teasers, a push is considered a loss.
For a complete view of teaser payouts, here is your payout table for BetPhoenix:
Teams | Payout Odds (4.0 Points) | Payout Odds (4.5 Points) | Payout Odds (5.0 Points) |
---|---|---|---|
2 | 1/1 | 10/12 | 10/13 |
3 | 9/5 | 8/5 | 7/5 |
4 | 3/1 | 5/2 | 2/1 |
5 | 9/2 | 4/1 | 7/2 |
6 | 6/1 | 11/2 | 5/1 |
7 | 10/1 | 9/1 | 8/1 |
8 | 15/1 | 12/1 | 10/1 |
9 | 20/1 | 15/1 | 12/1 |

Oklahoma City Thunder odds to win the Western Conference: +20000
Oklahoma City Thunder odds to win NBA Championship: +40000
Oklahoma City Thunder Odds To Win the Northwest Division
Oklahoma City Thunder odds to win the Northwest Division: +10000
The Oklahoma City Thunder are the very last underdogs to win their division. In the third year of reconstruction with one of the youngest and inexperienced squads in the league and even some G League components, the Thunder's current aspiration is looking more toward the draft than the top.
Oklahoma City Thunder Odds To Win the Western Conference Championship
Oklahoma City Thunder odds to win the Western Conference: +20000
The Thunder sits at the bottom of the odds of winning the conference, and rightfully so. Oklahoma City will look to improve as it navigates this third season of the rebuild. A promising young core is starting to develop, and we might see some sparks of greatness, but work is still to be done.
Oklahoma City Thunder Odds To NBA Championship
Oklahoma City Thunder odds to win NBA Championship: +40000
The Oklahoma City Thunder are among the highest odds to win the championship, alongside the Hornets, Rockets, Magic, and Spurs. The Thunder sits at the start of a long and slow rebuilding process and looks far from the winning end of the process. While they develop their young squad, they can focus on racking up first-round draft picks for now.
Oklahoma City Thunder 2021-2022 Season Recap
The 2021–22 was the Oklahoma City Thunder 56th season as a franchise and the 14th in Oklahoma City. Under the guidance of head coach Daigneault, the Thunder started the second season of a complete overhaul, with a very young team that includes ten under-23 prospects. Their previous season ended with a 22-50 record, but this is not the team's focus at the time, as they are probably more interested and a trip to the playoffs after being second in the conference and the third seed in the division. On this trip, they beat the Portland Trail Blazers in the first rounds and lost to the Phoenix Suns in the conference semifinals.
This season they picked Josh Giddey, Tre Mann, and Aaron Wiggins via Dragt, incorporating Derrick Favors and Jeremiah Robinson-Earl via trades, and Vít Krejci and Paul Watson Jr. from free agency, making the youngest squad in the league. Regardless, they performed as expected, with a lot of evident potential and even some sparks of greatness, but lacking experience and team cohesion, for a 24-58 record, only better than the Detroit Pistons, Orlando Magic, and Houston Rockets.
