UEFA Champions League 2018 Betting: Juventus vs Tottenham

Thinking about betting on Juventus vs Tottenham? Last season, Tottenham wasn’t even on the radar for the Champions. However, things have changed in a major way for the English team and they now find themselves in the Round of 16 facing last year’s second placing team, Juventus.

Betting on Juventus

After a shaky start of the season, the Italian squad seems to have bounced back, now heading in the Round of 16 trailing a 16-game undefeated streak.

Important to note is the fact that during this stretch they’ve not allowed but one goal; this should be interesting given their opponent’s ability to find the back of the net.

Juve has dominated the Serie A this year; so far, they’ve won all of their last 11 games, including a 2-0 victory over Fiorentina their last time out.

Arguably, this match favors the Italians. If there’s any team left in the competition that could stop Tottenham’s fantastic attack, it’s Juventus.

After Leonardo Bonucci left at the start of the season to join AC Milan, Medhi Benatia and Andrea Barzagli alongside Giorgio Chiellini have stepped up to replace the 30-year-old.

Juventus, however, will have to do without a number of key players including Paulo Dybala, Juan Cuadrado, and Blaise Matuidi who are all injured.

Though Juventus should be able to hold back Tottenham’s attack, they might find themselves shorthanded for scoring goals themselves.

Juventus Likely Starting Eleven

Buffon; Lichtsteiner, Chiellini, Benatia, Sandro; Marchisio, Pjanic, Khedira; Bernardeschi, Higuain, Mandzukic.

Betting on Tottenham

Mauricio Pochettino’s squad took 16 of the 18 possible points in the knockout stage, finishing atop their group that included Real Madrid and Borussia Dortmund.

But, the competition is about to get fierce as they drew against Massimiliano Allegri's Serie A title-winners Juventus, a team that’s reached two of the last three Champions League finals.

Tottenham doesn’t have much experience competing against Juve; except for a pre-season friendly were the Spurs won 2-0 at Wembley last year, these two have never played in a competition.

The Spurs will hope to ride the momentum picked up by their recent win over Arsenal last weekend. The team is building upon the great success they’ve had in this year’s competition where they defeated both Borussia Dortmund and Real Madrid.

Central to their success is striker Harry Kane, who jumped into the limelight as the front-runner for the European Golden Shoe. Joining him on the squad are the likes of Christian Eriksen, Dele Alli, And Heung-Min Son, who are the backbone of an impressive front-four that go toe-to-toe with any team.

Juventus’ defense will be tested by Kane and Co.; even if Juventus has only given up on goal in their last 16 games, Kane is a deadly-effective force that can crack open opportunities to find the back of the net.

Tottenham Likely Starting Eleven

Lloris; Trippier, Vertonghen, Sanchez, Davies; Dembele, Dier, Eriksen, Alli, Son; Kane.

Key Matchup

Harry Kane vs Giorgio Chiellini: This matchup has the possibility of tipping the scales to either team’s side. If Chiellini is unable to slow Kane down, it’s likely Tottenham will get away with the win.

Prediction: Given both team’s makeup, it makes it hard to predict this game. It’s hard to see Juventus escaping this game unscathed against Eriksen and Kane. But, I don’t really expect Tottenham to come away with a win in Turin. I’m favoring the 1-1 on this game.
