Bet on Golf at BetPhoenix Online Sportsbook

Action never dies in the sport of golf. And there is always plenty of golf betting to be done in both the PGA Tour and European Tour. The most popular events that people get their betting action from are the Masters, U.S. Open, The Open Championship and the PGA Championship. These four tournaments are the major golf tournaments of the year and they tend to catch the eye of the casual bettors, because of the hype that surround the events. But other events such as the Ryder’s Cup

Your best bet in golf is usually the outright winner, but smart bettors looking to get the most bang for their buck will try their chances on Two Chances to Win, Match Betting and Round Leader.

How to Bet On Golf

Betting on golf is actually quite simple and profitable, the three most popular ways to bet on the sport are outright bets, group matchups and golfer matchups.

Outright Winners

Since predicting an outright winner in golf if more difficult than in other sports, you are sure to get a higher payout if you win. It might seem difficult to pick one among so many players in each tournament, but truthfully there’s only a handful who really have a chance at winning. Just keep these 2 things in mind when picking your outright winner:

  • Who has been playing well during the season?
  • Who does well at a specific tournament?

Golfer matchups

This is an easier way to bet on golf, because it doesn’t require you to pick the winner of a tournament. All you have to do is pick between the two players that are in a group, and the player that finishes with the round with a lower score wins.

Group matchups

Similar to golfer matchups, the difference here is that it involves more than two golfers. You get to pick which player in a group is going to finish the round with the lowest score. With these types of golf bets, the risks are lower, which is why the payouts are also lower than picking an outright winner.

One of the things that makes golf unique, is the fact that there are golfers from all over the world competing on the PGA Tour, as well as the European Tour. Over the years, the United States has produced more golf tournament winners than any other country in the world. 21 out of the top 22 players with the most wins come from America, and nine of the 10 players with the most majors are also Americans.

Top 3 PGA Tour Tournaments

The Majors

  • April – Masters Tournament
  • June – U.S. Open
  • July – The Open Championship
  • August – PGA Championship

The Majors are golf's marquee events along with the Ryder Cup ad Presidents Cup where elite players prove their skill. Some of the biggest names in golf that have won the Majors Tournaments include; Jack Nicklaus who leads the way with 18 wins, followed by Tiger Woods with 14 wins and Walter Hagen with 11 wins.

The Masters Tournament

Some of the biggest names in golf have won the event, Jack Nicklaus leads the way with 6 wins, followed by Arnold Palmer and Tiger Woods, who have 4 wins each.

The Open Championship

Known as the British Open, it is the oldest of all four majors and one of the favorites among golfers, because it takes place in the birthplace of golf, at some of the most historic golf courses in the United Kingdom and the unpredictable weather always makes it a tough challenge. In recent times, the players that have dominated the course are Tom Watson and Peter Thomson, who won it 5 times, as well as Jack Nicklaus, Nick Faldo, Bobby Jones, Tiger Woods, Seve Ballesteros, and Gary Player, who won it three times.

The United States Open Championship

Also known as the U.S. Open, is another popular major tournament on the PGA Tour. The legends that have won the U.S. Open are Jack Nicklaus, Ben Hogan and Bobby Jones, who won it 4 times, as well as Tiger Woods and Hale Irwin, who won it three times.

Top 3 European Tour Tournaments

  • November - WGC-HSBC Champions
  • July - The Scottish Open
  • November - DP World Tour Championship

The WGC-HSBC Champions is an annual event held in China, it is part of the World Golf Championship events, and features players that have won top rated tournaments. This event takes place in November, and has been won by some of the biggest names in golf, but Phil Mickelson is the only multiple winner, with 2 wins.

The Scottish Open is another big European Tour tournament, and it usually occurs in July, a week before the Open Championship. The tournament legends are Ian Woosnam, who has won it 3 times, and Ernie Els, who has won it twice.

DP World Tour Championship, Dubai, is the biggest end of season tournament on the European Tour. It started in 2009, so it is not as old as a lot of the other tournaments, but it has quickly become one of the most popular tournaments on the Tour. It is held in November, and the only legend it has right now is Henrik Stenson, who has won it the last two years.
