D.C. United History
On a great day in 1996, the D.C. Unites was born and their first game would be a big one. Before a capacity crowd, 300 members of the news media, and dozens of soccer dignitaries including FIFA President Joao Havelange, D.C. United and the San Jose Clash took the field at the conclusion of the opening ceremonies and at just a few minutes after 5 PM Pacific Time, kicked off a new era in US sports. Division I professional soccer had returned to the U.S. led by the United and some of the best players to ever take the field in the MLS.
D.C. United Players
It started in 2004 when head coach Peter Nowak and teen phenom Freddy Adu both joined the club in January. Nowak became the fourth United coach in team history, while Freddy was the first overall selection in the MLS SuperDraft. However, the United had one of their best teams in 2007. United won its fourth Supporters' Shield, becoming the first team in League history to win the trophy in back-to-back years. The addition of Brazilians Luciano Emilio and Fred, along with veterans Jaime Moreno, Christian Gomez, and Ben Olsen helped the team score 56 regular-season goals. In August, Moreno scored his 109th career regular-season goal, breaking the MLS record. He finished the season with 112 career goals. In more recent years young and talented players like Perry Kitchen, Bill Hamid, Ethan White, and Andy Najar all stepped up and played significant minutes in 2011 letting the fans know that this team will have a very bright future in the MLS. This team will continue to play well and thrill the fans for years to come!

D.C. United is the second team with the most MLS Cup wins with 4 titles, just under L.A . Galaxy which holds 5. D.C. United won in 1996, 1997, 1999, and 2004. They also won the U.S Open Cup three times in 1996, 2008, and 2013 which is their last title.
