The Russian Premier League, RPL Russian Football Premier League, officially named Mir Russian Premier League, is the top division of the Russian Professional Football League system, thanks to the sponsorship of the card payment system. It was founded as the Top League in 1994 after the disintegration of the Soviet Union by the RFU Russian Football Union, the nation's FIFA-affiliated governing body for football.

The six Russian clubs that played in the Soviet Top League (CSKA Moscow, Dynamo Moscow, Lokomotiv Moscow, Spartak Moscow, Spartak Vladikavkaz, and Torpedo Moscow) started the new league, including additional 14 teams from lower-tiered competitions to form the first Russian Top Division with 20 teams divided into two groups. The league adopted a unified round-robin format and reduced the participants to 16 teams to reduce the number of matches and increase the quality of play.

What is the Russian Premier League?

The Russian Premier League is the country's top-flight league, organized by the RFU Russian Football Union, the official FIFA-affiliated governing body for football in the Russian Federation. It is the direct successor of the VFS All-Russian Football Union, founded in 1912, and the Football Federation of the USSR between 1934 and 1992, when it restructured to its current form, tasked with organizing Russian professional and amateur football.

The Russian Football system is structured with the Russian Premier League as the top tier competition, with 16 teams; the Russian First League as the second tier, with 18 teams; the Russian Second League Division A as the amateur third tier, with 20 clubs divided into two groups, and the Russian Second League Division B as the fourth tier with 59 clubs divided into four groups. Additionally, the RFU Russian Football Union administers other major national competitions, like the Russian Cup, a knock-out tournament that includes teams from the top three levels of the Russian Football Pyramid, and the Russian Super Cup, played since 1979 between the Russian Premier League and Russian Cup champions.

Regarding international events, while the Russian Premier League is a member of UEFA and their teams qualify for continental competitions like the UEFA Champions League, the UEFA Europa League, and the UEFA Conference League, their participation was suspended as of the 2021/22 season due to Russia's invasion of Ukraine.

At the time of its international suspension, the Russian Premier League ranked 20th in Europe according to the UEFA league coefficient. The Russian Premier League has been in redevelopment to regain its former glory. The current international ban has put a pause on that process, which, despite experiencing growth in attendance and television viewership, clubs don't have access to international players and competitions or international sponsors, which limits them in most cases to state companies. For example, Lokomotiv Moscow is sponsored by Russian Railways, Spartak Moscow by Lukoil, and Zenit Saint Petersburg by Gazprom, to name a few.

Current teams:

  • Akhmat, Grozny
  • Baltika, Kaliningrad
  • Fakel, Voronezh
  • CSKA, Moscow
  • Dynamo, Moscow
  • Krasnodar, Krasnodar
  • Krylia Sovetov, Samara
  • Lokomotiv, Moscow
  • Nizhny Novgorod, Nizhny Novgorod
  • Rostov, Rostov-on-Don
  • Orenburg, Orenburg
  • Sochi, Sochi
  • Spartak, Moscow
  • Rubin, Kazan
  • FC Ural, Yekaterinburg
  • Zenit, Saint Petersburg

Unlike most European leagues' usual August to May calendar, the season is played between March and November. Teams play against each other twice, in a double round-robin format, at home and away, for 30 matchdays, with the usual three points per win, one point per draw, and no points per loss. Teams are ranked by points, and in case of a tie, other criteria are considered, starting with goal difference, goals scored, head-to-head score, goals scored in the matchup, away goals in the matchup, and total away goals in the season. A tiebreaker match played at a neutral venue would decide the final placement in case of a persisting tie that would define the Championship, qualification to other competitions, and relegation.

The Russian Premier League includes a relegation and promotion system in which, after every season, the two bottom teams in the table are relegated to the Russian First League, with teams in this second-tier level being promoted to take their place. The relegation system gives an exciting edge to the competition in the fight to avoid relegation. Only three teams have avoided relegation from the Russian Premier League: Benfica, Spartak Moscow, and Zenit Saint Petersburg.

Before the suspension, the top two teams qualify for the following UEFA Champions League. Since the UEFA Champions League and the UEFA Europe League champions earn a direct berth, the league could have extra qualifying spots if these come from the Russian Premier League. The third team, alongside the Russian Cup champion, qualifies for the UEFA Europa League, the continental second-tier club competition. The fourth place earns a UEFA Europa Conference League berth, the third-tier European tournament.

How to Bet on Russian Premier League

BetPhoenix.ag not only offers you the best Russian Premier League Odds, but we also provide you with many helpful tools, like this Russian Premier League odds guide, to introduce you to the numerous moneymaking opportunities available when betting on the Russian Premier League betting lines, helping you improve your chances of winning.

Russian Premier League Point Spreads

The Russian Premier League Point Spreads bets, similarly to other major sports like football, baseball, and basketball, are based on a handicapped margin of victory established on a projected game result. If a Russian Premier League betting lines show a point spread of 1.5 for an upcoming game, the favorite team (-1.5) must win by at least two goals for your bet to be a winner, while betting on the underdog (+1.5) can lose by one goal, tie the game or win outright for your bet to be a win. The .5 fraction is used to avoid a push in the wagers.

This is an example of a Russian Premier League Point Spread, as you would find it listed in BetPhoenix:

Team - Points Spread Odds

Zenit Saint Petersburg -1.5

Spartak Moscow +1.5

In this case, the -1.5 points spread indicates that Zenit Saint Petersburg is the favorite to win by a margin of two goals against Spartak Moscow. Conversely, Spartak Moscow is the underdog and can lose by a margin of less than two goals. These are the likely results of this bet:

· Zenit Saint Petersburg wins by two or more goals: Zenit Saint Petersburg bettors win.

· Zenit Saint Petersburg wins by one goal: Spartak Moscow bettors win.

· The game is a draw/tie: Spartak Moscow bettors win.

· Spartak Moscow wins the game: Spartak Moscow bettors win.

Russian Premier League Moneylines

Russian Premier League Moneyline is always the most straightforward betting option. Your pick reflects who you expect to be the outright winner of the game. A negative odds value indicates the favorite, while a positive value indicates an underdog. Russian Premier League Moneyline uses a $100 base American odds system, in which larger numbers indicate a stronger favorite or weaker underdog.

The two-way Russian Premier League Moneyline, in which the Russian Premier League betting lines are focused on either one of the two sides winning, removing the impact of a tie or draw, in which case the bet would be a push. There is also a three-way Russian Premier League Moneyline, in which the Russian Premier League betting lines offer odds values for the home team winning, the visitor team winning, or the match ending in a draw or tie.

This is an example of a Two-Way Russian Premier League Moneyline, as you would find it listed in BetPhoenix:

Team - Moneyline

Zenit Saint Petersburg -240

Spartak Moscow +220

In this case, if you bet to win $100 on Zenit Saint Petersburg -240, as favorites, you would need to risk $240, while betting $100 on Spartak Moscow +220 as an underdog, you would receive $220 if Spartak Moscow wins the game. If the match ends in a tie, the wager would be a push, which means the bet is voided and refunded.

This is an example of a Three-Way Russian Premier League Moneyline, as you would find it listed in BetPhoenix:

Team - Moneyline

Zenit Saint Petersburg -180

Draw +200

Spartak Moscow +160

If you bet to win $100 on Zenit Saint Petersburg -180 as the favorite, you would need to risk $180. If you bet $100 on the draw +200, you would receive $200 if the game ends in a tie. And betting $100 on Spartak Moscow +160 as an underdog, you would receive $160 if Spartak Moscow wins.

At BetPhoenix, our Russian Premier League odds will give you the best available Moneyline prices and the tightest point spread odds offered by any sportsbook.

Russian Premier League Over/Under Totals

The Russian Premier League Totals bet is based on a projected final score that includes both teams, independently on which side wins. Russian Premier League Totals are represented in an Over/Under set, where you can pick if you expect this result to be over or under this estimated line.

This is an example of a Russian Premier League Over/Under Totals as you would find it listed in BetPhoenix:

Russian Premier League Totals – Zenit Saint Petersburg vs. Spartak Moscow

Total: 2.5

Over odds: +140

Under odds: -120

In this case, the Russian Premier League Over/Under of 2.5 means that if the match ends with a combined score of three or more goals, the Over wins; if the total score is two or less, the Under wins. If you bet to win $100 on the Over +140, and the match ends with 3 goals or more, you would receive $140. Betting $100 on the Under -120, you would need to risk $120 to win if the game ends with 2 goals or less.

Russian Premier League Parlays

Russian Premier League Parlay is a wager type in which two or more Russian Premier League betting lines are combined to form a single wager with a considerably higher payout. However, all selected Russian Premier League betting lines must win for the parlay wager to win. You can combine point spreads, moneylines, over/under totals, and other wagers. You can also combine favorites and underdogs. The more bets you add to your Russian Premier League parlay, the odds multiply accordingly in your favor.

Using the example, a two-line Russian Premier League Parlay could be as follows:

Zenit Saint Petersburg -180

Zenit Saint Petersburg vs. Spartak Moscow Total: Under 2.5 -120

By combining the Zenit Saint Petersburg Moneyline -180 and Total Under 2.5 -120 for the Zenit Saint Petersburg vs. Spartak Moscow game on a 2-team parlay risking $100, the combined odds would be +185 with a payout for this parlay of $285.19, about 2.5 times your bet, instead of risking $100 to bet on each separately.

Russian Premier League Prop Bets

Russian Premier League prop bets are one of the most exciting ways to bet on the outcome of the games. The most popular German Bundesliga Prop Bets include many possibilities. Team prop bets include lines to bet on which team will score first, how many shots on goal will be made, how many corner kicks will occur, how many cards will be sanctioned, and a long etcetera. Player props bets include who will score a goal during the game, who will score the first goal of the match, who will score multiple goals, how many shots on goal a player will make, etc.

Take the time to check all available props on Betphoenix.ag, and you'll find many attractive options to increase your betting repertoire.
