Mets vs Dodgers Predictions & Odds and Free Pick

Since last year’s hotly contested series, the Mets and Dodgers meet for the first time this year. If you recall, back in 2015, the Chase Utley slide that broke Ruben Tejada’s leg undoubtedly caused some bad blood between the two teams which might resurface tonight. Keep reading for the game preview and Mets vs Dodgers predictions

Betting on the Mets

In trying to break up a double-play, Chase Utley wound up breaking Tejada’s leg and causing major rule changes for situations as such. However, this didn’t prevent the Mets from moving on to the World Series, which is what they’re hoping to repeat this year and are well on track to doing so in leading the NL East for the first time this season.

Although it’s still too early in the season, with the Mets’ defeat of the San Diego Padres 4-3 on Sunday, New York appears to be ready for the grind. Leftie pitcher Steven Matz should start in this series and having pitched 13 2/3 scoreless innings over his last two outings looks good to go. Matz held the Dodgers (16-15) scoreless through six innings in July, but gave up three runs in five innings of a 3-1 loss in Game 4 of the NLDS.

Of course, pitching proved to be the difference for the Mets in the NLDS, limiting Los Angeles to eight total runs over three meetings in Los Angeles. And, it will also be a huge factor in this series as well, though last season the Dodgers did not have Scott Kazmir on board, so it’ll be interesting to watch how this matchup plays out.

Betting on the Dodgers

Like mentioned above, Kazmir was not in LA until this offseason; although the Dodgers have some momentum going after holding the Blue Jays' offense to two runs in each of its final two games to win two of three in Toronto, Kazmir struggled on Tuesday in giving up four runs in 6 2/3 innings, including a pair of home runs, in the 10-5 win at Tampa Bay. Kazmir has given up at least four runs and seven hits in four of his last five outings but is 2-1 in three starts versus the Mets. The leftie has also been effective against the Mets’ heavy hitters, Yoenis Cespedes, who is 0-for-6 with five strikeouts and Asdrubal Cabrera, who is 2-for-17.

The Dodgers have been steadily improving at bat over the last few games. Joc Pederson hit a home run and Howie Kendrick put it a tiebreaking RBI single in the eighth in the Dodgers’ 4-2 win on Sunday. They're batting .261 over their last five after hitting .154 in their previous five. Yasiel Puig was hitting .132 over his previous nine before hitting a single as a pinch-hitter on Sunday and is expected to be back in the starting lineup for this match.
