MLB Betting: New York Mets vs Pittsburgh Pirate

Bet on the Mets

Beyond Neil Walker and Yoenis Cespedes, the Mets’ offense this year isn’t packing much punch. With 13 and 15 home runs respectively, these two players carry the burden of powering an offense which is dependent on the home run but that just doesn’t have much more offensive capability.

Regardless, the Mets are still in the hunt for a playoff spot finding themselves just two games behind the Washington Nationals in the National League East. In fact, if the season ended today, the would be competing for the Wild Card. And, because they’re playing the Pirates tonight, this series would be the preview of the Wild Card game.

Over the series, the Mets will probably be putting up their three best performing starters in the rotation: Steven Matz, Jacob deGrom, and Noah Syndergaard. All three have ERA’s of 2.62 or lower, WHIP’s of 1.16 or less, and are striking out more than seven batters per nine innings pitched. Syndergaard, himself has an ERA of 1.91, 1.78 FIP, a WHIP of 0.96, and is striking out 11.46 batters per nine innings pitched.

Bet on the Pirates

Last year, The Pittsburgh Pirates won every game played against the Mets. In fact, The Pirates went 6-0 and outscored the Mets 37-10 in six meetings between the two teams.

They have another shot in this series to be successful, given the Mets’ problems of getting their offense going. If the Pirates can keep Cespedes and Walker from scoring a home run, they should be able once again to win the game.

Even with the Mets’ impressive pitchers on deck, the Pirates should be able to at least get a few runs in to win this game.
