New York Yankees vs. Chicago White Sox

The New York Yankees will try to dust themselves off after a tough weekend in Boston as they head into a three-game road series against the White Sox. Looking ahead, the good news is that twenty-four of their next 27 games are against teams below .500 and eighteen of 24 games are at home, where they own the league’s second-best record (38-16, .704) behind Boston. Let’s take a look at what the MLB betting lines show in Monday night’s game and what you can expect from the series.

New York Yankees vs. Chicago White Sox Betting Preview

  • When: August 06, 2018, 8:10 PM ET
  • Where: Guaranteed Rate Field
  • Probable pitchers (away/home): L. Lynn/D. Covey
  • MLB Spread: New York Yankees -186 / Chicago White Sox +175 (Total 9.5)

Why Bet on the Yankees?

Lance Lynn will get his first shot at starting at the mound as a Yankee which may be good news for New York at this time. His aggressive and competitive nature could be just what the doctor ordered as the Pinstripes try to keep the Red Sox within shooting distance in the AL East. Lynn is 2-1 with a 2.67 ERA in five career starts against the White Sox after splitting a pair of decisions earlier this season.

The Yankees can’t afford to lay back and moan after their disastrous series against Boston which took their losing streak to a season-high of five games. New York was swept in the four-game series against the Red Sox and fell 9 ½ games behind the first-place Boston.

The Yankees have allowed 13 runs in their last three games and four or more runs in seven of their last nine games. It’s something that they’re hoping Lynn can cut short as New York has lost eight of their 10 games when they’ve allowed at least four runs.

Offensively, Giancarlo Stanton leads the Yanks with 120 hits and 67 RBI, while Miguel Andujar and Didi Gregorius have combined for 217 hits and 113 RBI. Giancarlo Stanton drove in a run while registering two of New York's six singles Sunday for his third two-hit performance in four contests.

Why Bet on the White Sox?

While it’s been a slow and arduous rebuilding process for the White Sox, their patience seems to be paying off as they head into their series against the Yankees on a high note. For the first time in nearly a year, Chicago has put a series sweep under their belts in winning four games straight over the Tampa Bay Rays.

Despite the Sox’ troubles this season, they’ve shown some signs of recovery since the All-Star break by playing at .500 which should give them some confidence heading into this series against the Yankees. The White Sox have scored 13 runs in their last three games and four or more runs in seven of their last 10 games.

Dylan Covey (4-7, 5.57 ERA) gets the nod to start on Monday for the White Sox. Covey is 4-7 with a 5.57 ERA and 51 strikeouts this season. It’ll be Covey’s second career game against the Yankees, but he did not fare well the first time around when he was pummeled for eight runs and 10 hits – three home runs – over five innings. Covey has lost six of his last seven decisions, including hitting a road bump against Kansas City on Wednesday in which he surrendered seven runs (four earned) on five hits and three walks over 4 1/3 innings.

Important Betting Trends

  • NY Yankees are 1-4 ATS in its last 5 games
  • NY Yankees are 0-5 SU in its last 5 games
  • NY Yankees are 1-4 ATS in its last 5 games on the road
  • Chi White Sox is 4-1 ATS in its last 5 games
  • Chi White Sox is 4-1 SU in its last 5 games
  • The total has gone OVER in 8 of Chi White Sox's last 11 games

Game Prediction: Given how these two teams have been playing as of late, the price on this game seems mad. The Yankees have to be hurting after their grueling loss on Sunday and Lynn though good has yet to earn his salt with the Yankees. Meanwhile, Covey is allowing .a 277 batting average for the season and now faces a Yankees team that’s shown some spunk that might light afire. Take the over on this one.
