Betting on Liverpool

The English team heads into this match with some momentum after winning seven of their last ten competitive games.

Though Liverpool had a shaky start in this Champions League competition, as they weren’t able to beat Sevilla and Spartak Moscow in their two opening group games, they eventually gained a toehold by beating Maribor in both their group matches and then drew against Sevilla 3-3, finally crushing Spartak Moscow 7-0.

Without a question, when Liverpool is at its best it’s a high-scoring machine. In ten of their last 12 games, they’ve scored at least three goals.

Even in away matches, they’ve managed the same amount of goals to their tally so it’s not far-fetched to expect a similar amount of goals scored in this game.

However, the absence of Emre Can due to suspension might be a factor that limits Liverpool’s attack. Team manager Jürgen Klopp has downplayed this factor and may plan to slip Jordan Henderson in to balance things out.

At the very least, Liverpool should be able to capitalize on scoring a valuable away score to have more confidence in sealing their ticket to the next stage in the second leg game at home.

Liverpool’s defense, however, will be tested as Porto heads into this game with 53 goals scored in 21 Primeira Liga games.

Klopp is counting on goalkeeper Loris Karius to keep their side with a clean sheet, but it might be much more difficult than what fans are expecting.

Betting on Porto

Porto came in second in Group F behind Besiktas and also head into this match with the momentum gained from 21 unbeaten Portuguese Primeira Liga games so far this season.

They also have a good record against English teams, having lost just three of 16 games. The Portuguese squad hopes to ride this success on their home pitch and keep a clean sheet.

Porto is counting on Cameroonian Vincent Aboubakar to find the back of their opponent’s net. Aboubakar has scored 26 times in 32 games in all competitions which includes two goals against Monaco in this year’s competition.

Liverpool, however, is a different foe altogether and one that has beaten them before in this competition.

Porto may be shorthanded on defense for this game, as they’re still waiting on a late fitness test for defender Ivan Marcano who hasn’t played since January 24.

Given that Brazilian defender Felipe will be out for this game, it’s especially important that Marcano be able to play in this match.

If Marcano is unable to play, manager Sergio Conceicao might have to do with the untested Yordan Osorio who only joined Porto’s ranks in January of this year.

Prediction: This will be a closed match and the score will only open in the second half of the game. I’m expecting a 1-1 draw.
