Why Bet on the Redskins?

The Redskins are 1-1 in Thanksgiving Day games; but, they head into this game as big dogs despite having beaten the Cowboys in Week 7.

The big difference back then though, is they had QB Alex Smith, who is now on the injury list with a broken leg. This makes their hold on the NFC East shaky at best considering Dallas heads into the game having won back-to-back.

However, the historic trend for underdogs winning against the spread is 31-10 ATS, so you still may want to lay some money on Washington.

The reality of things for Washington is they’re a hobbled team with all of the injuries to their players. Colt McCoy will probably take the quarterback position, but it’s likely they’ll be on the losing end of this event.

Why Bet on the Cowboys?

The Cowboys are running on the coattails of running back Ezekiel Elliot’s success. And, if Elliot continues to perform as he has, it signals good things for Dallas.

Elliot put up 273 rushing yards and two touchdowns in wins over and Philadelphia and Atlanta while adding 13 receptions for 115 yards and a score through the air.

Washington has been pretty good at preventing rushing touchdowns (7), but they’re giving up around 4.3 yards per carry which is the average in the league.

Though much of the attention is on Elliot’s running ability, the defense has been holding its own and giving the offense more time on the field.

The D ranks third in points allowed per game (19.0) and is fifth in rush yards allowed per game while giving up just 13 receiving touchdowns.

Redskins vs. Cowboys Betting Trends

  • Washington is 5-1 ATS in its last 6 games
  • Washington is 4-2 SU in its last 6 games
  • The total has gone UNDER in 10 of Washington's last 14 games
  • Dallas is 4-2 ATS in its last 6 games
  • The total has gone UNDER in 14 of Dallas's last 19 games
  • Dallas is 4-2 SU in its last 6 games at home

Predictions: Taking Dallas to cover is a good bet, right? It may not be. The Cowboys are 0-7 ATS in their last seven games played on Thanksgiving. Though Colt McCoy isn’t spectacular, I believe he’ll rise to the occasion in Texas.

Pick: Redskins -7.5
