The Houston Rockets are a professional NBA basketball team based in Houston, Texas. They compete in the NBA as a Western Conference, Southwest Division member. They were founded as an expansion team in 1967 as the San Diego Rockets, moving to Houston in 1971.

They host their home games at the Toyota Center since its opening in 2003, an indoor venue located in the Central Business District of Downtown Houston, next to Discovery Green Park. It's sponsored by car maker Toyota, whose American subsidiary is based in Houston.

The NBA was looking to expand in the west and elected San Diego and Seattle for this expansion, granting franchises for the San Diego Rockets and the Seattle Supersonics, now the Oklahoma City Thunder, in 1967. The name was selected in homage to the city being home to General Dynamics, who developed the Atlas rocket, which has launched several missions to space. After four losing seasons and financial distress, the franchise was sold to a Houston-based investment group, and the team moved to Houston in 1971, becoming the first NBA team in Texas. The name took even more relevance given Houston's connection to NASA.

These early Rockets were led by future Hall of Famers Elvin Hayes and Calvin Murphy, together with Rudy Tomjanovich, who would later return as a coach. With the arrival of Moses Malone for the 1976–77 season, the Rockets posted the first winning season in franchise history. Under Coach Del Harris, the Rockets reached their first NBA finals in 1981, losing it to the Boston Celtics. Malone requested to leave in 1982 and was traded to the 76ers, and the Rockets fell to the bottom of the standings, posting three consecutive losing seasons in his absence.

Houston drafted University of Houston alumnus and future hall of Famer Hakeem "The Dream" Olajuwon in 1984, who immediately became the face of the franchise. The duo formed by Olajuwon and Ralph "Stick" Sampson, both over 7 feet, led the Rockets to their second finals appearance in 1986, losing again to the Celtics. The Rockets continued to deliver winning seasons, qualifying for the playoffs every year until 1991 but failing to make it past the second round for the rest of the decade.

Tomjanovich returned as the new head coach in the middle of the 1991–92 season, guiding the franchise to its most successful historical period. Coach Rudy T inspired the group led by Olajuwon, Sam Cassell, Robert Horry, and Clyde Drexler to win back-to-back NBA Championships in 1994 and 1995.

The Rockets traded Charles Barkley from the Phoenix Suns in 1996, bringing together three of the NBA's 50 greatest players of all time. But the aging trio of Olajuwon, Drexler, and Barkley could not push Houston past the conference finals. Each one of them had left by 2001, including Tomjanovich. The 2000s Rockets delivered consistent performances, led by Tracy McGrady and Yao Ming from China, but fell on a trend of postseason underachievement. McGrady left for the Knicks in 2010, and Yao retired in 2011 after suffering two injury-filled seasons, forcing the Rockets into a new rebuilding process.

For this rebuilding, the Rockets relied on statistical analysis for player selection in the style of 'Moneyball' and sabermetrics. As a result, the Rockets clinched the 2013 playoffs with the youngest squad in the league, which included James Harden. Houston signed star Dwight Howard the following year, and the Rockets improved their previous record and advanced to the playoffs again. They posted their best post-Olajuwon record of 56-26 in the 2014–15 campaign, advancing to the conference finals, where they lost to the Warriors. New coach Mike D'Antoni established a fast-paced, highly efficient style with Harden at the helm, posting a 55-win campaign.

The Rockets signed star point guard Chris Paul, improving to a 65-17 record in 2017–18, a franchise-best, also breaking the NBA record of 1,256 three-point conversions. The Rockets advanced to the Western Conference finals, where an ill-timed injury suffered by Paul killed their chances against the Warriors. The Rockets started to struggle in 2018–19, and while still posting two more winning regular seasons, they lost momentum. They traded Chris Paul to the Thunder and then Harden to the Nets, causing a downfall that brought two consecutive losing seasons and a new rebuilding phase.

Placing your Houston Rockets bets on BetPhoenix thru the NBA basketball season can be a profitable and fun endeavor, especially if you put in some time and research.

Houston Rockets Spreads

Point Spreads are a margin-of-victory bet that indicates an estimated game result. This is an example of a Houston Rockets Point Spread line:

Team Points Spread Odds

Denver Nuggets -11

Houston Rockets +11

In this case, the line indicates that the Denver Nuggets are the favorite to win by a margin of more than eleven points against the Houston Rockets. On the other side, the Rockets are the underdog and can lose by less than an eleven-point margin.

A small spread of 4 or fewer points means that the game is expected to be a close matchup, while a large spread of 5 or more points means that the favorite is expected to perform much better than the underdog.

People betting on the Rockets point spreads expect them to lose by a margin under 11 points, while those betting on the underdog expect the Nuggets to win by more than 11 points in order to cover the spread.

· Nuggets win by twelve or more points: Nuggets bettors win

· Nuggets win by precisely 11 points: The bet is a push, and all wagers are refunded

· Denver Nuggets win by ten points or less: Rockets bettors win

· Rockets win the game: Rockets bettors win

Houston Rockets Moneylines

The Houston Rockets Moneylines bet is the most straightforward option in sports betting. You simply bet on the team that you believe will win the game. There's a negative number for the favorite, or the team considered more likely to win, and a positive number for the underdog, or the team considered more likely to lose.

This is an example of a Houston Rockets Moneyline as it would be listed in BetPhoenix:

Team Moneyline

Denver Nuggets -650

Houston Rockets +475

Using this example, the Houston Rockets Moneyline would result as follows:

· Rockets Moneyline: For every $100 wagered on the Rockets +475, you would receive $475 if Houston wins the game.

· Nuggets Moneyline: If you wagered to win $100 by betting on the Denver Nuggets -650, you would need to risk $650.

Rockets Moneylines and Rockets point spreads use the same information to estimate the relative strength of each team for this particular matchup. The greater the Moneyline numbers indicate a greater favorite or more significant underdog.

Houston Rockets Over/Under Totals

The Rockets Totals bet, or over/under bet, is a wager on the estimated combined score of the game, in which you bet on the total of points scored being higher or lower than the set value. You can bet the over, meaning you predict the score to be above the number, or the under, indicating that you expect the final score to be less than the estimate. The bet can also be a push if the final score equals exactly the estimate, in which case all bets are refunded. This is an example of a Houston Rockets Totals line as it would be listed in BetPhoenix:

Houston Rockets vs. Denver Nuggets

Total: 230.5

Over odds: -110

Under odds: -110

For every $1.10 risked on either option, you'd win $1.

Houston Rockets Parlays

Houston Rockets Parlays is a type of wager where you combine different single bets into one. This is very advantageous as the odds are increased substantially since all bets included as part of the parlay must win for the whole parlay to pay out.

You can combine different types of bets, like point spreads, moneylines, over/under totals, player props, and many other wagers. You can also choose between favorites and underdogs. BetPhoenix will increase your Houston Rockets Parlays odds and payout as more individual bets are added. Rockets parlays allow up to 10 single bets, including cross-sport bets, allowing you, for instance, to pair an NBA game bet with an NFL bet and a Soccer bet.

For example, we can combine the Houston Rockets Point Spread of +11 and the Under of 230.5. We can add other plays to the Rockets parlay, like the Utah Jazz -7.5 against the Los Angeles Clippers and the Over 222.5 in that game, and the Phoenix Suns -5.5 and the Over 226.5 in that game, to make a 6-team Rockets Parlay.

Rockets Spread: +11 -110

Rockets Totals: Under 230.5 -110

Jazz Spread: -7.5 -110

Jazz Totals: Over 222.5 -110

Suns Spread: -5.5 -110

Suns Totals: Over 226.5 -110

This 6-team Rockets Parlay would compound payout odds of +4741, well above 40x times your bet if you wagered on each line separately. For example, risking $25 would earn you a payout of $1185.32, with these possible outcomes:

· Rockets Point Spread covers, Rockets over/under covers, and the other lines in the parlay also cover, so all bets cover: Win $1185.32

· Rockets Point Spread pushes, Rockets over/under covers, and the other lines in the parlay cover. The push is canceled, and it becomes a 5-team Rockets parlay: Win $608.98

· Rockets Point Spread covers, Rockets over/under doesn't cover, and the other lines in the parlay cover. Loss: -$25

· Rockets Point Spread covers, Rockets over/under covers, and the other lines in the parlay fail to cover. Loss: -$25

Any lost pick within the parlay selection constitutes a loss.

Houston Rockets Teasers

A teaser is a grouping of multiple bets combined into one single bet. The difference between teasers and parlays is that with Rockets teasers, the lines are moved in your favor by the number of points given by the teaser.

Houston Rockets Teasers often start at 4 points and can go up to 5 points. Available Teasers on BetPhoenix include:

4 points Teasers for 2 to 8 Teams

4.5 points Teasers for 2 to 8 Teams

5 points Teasers for 2 to 8 Teams

7 points Teaser for 3 Teams

9 points Teaser for 4 Teams

One of the most popular Teasers is the 2-team 4-point that has the same payout as a regular -110 wager.

Rockets Teasers are attractive for giving you a significant advantage with a much more favorable line, but that comes at a cost in terms of the payout opportunities.

Based on the previous example, we can tease the same picks of the parlay we made previously in a 6-team 4-point Rockets teaser would be as follows:

Original Lines vs. Teased lines (with 4 points in your favor)

Rockets Spread: +11 up to +15

Rockets Totals: Under 230.5 up to 234.5

Jazz Spread: -7.5 down to -3.5

Jazz Totals: Over 222.5 down to 218.5

Suns Spread: -5.5 down to -1.5

Suns Totals: Over 226.5 down to 222.5

In the hypothetical case of the Rockets losing the game 110-123 (+13/233), the Rockets odds and the Over failed to cover the original point spreads but would win on the 6-team 4-point Rockets Teaser, as they would cover the new +15 point spread and the Under 234.5 points.

Note that on teasers, a push is considered a loss.

Here are some of the most popular Rockets Futures Odds bets you can make before and throughout the regular season. Their current lines are:

Houston Rockets Regular Season Win Totals: 27.5

Houston Rockets odds to win the Southwest Division: +35000

Houston Rockets odds to win the Western Conference: +45000

Houston Rockets odds to win NBA Championship: +60000

Houston Rockets Odds To Win the Southwest Division

Houston Rockets odds to win the Southwest Division: +35000

The Houston Rockets have the worst odds to win their division. They are far in the bottom, far behind the next in line, the San Antonio Spurs. This is a franchise in the early stages of a complete overhaul after the departures of Harden and Westbrook, with a group of rookies that will need time to develop before returning to any chances of contention.

Houston Rockets Odds To Win the Western Conference Championship

Houston Rockets odds to win the Western Conference: +45000

Again, Houston sits in the very worst spot in terms of odds of winning the conference, only comparable to other rebuilding teams like the San Antonio Spurs or the Oklahoma City Thunder. A number of promising young players on this team still need to develop, starting with Jalen Green. At the end of the season, they will likely receive a top draft pick to help their efforts.

Houston Rockets Odds To NBA Championship

Houston Rockets odds to win NBA Championship: +60000

The Houston Rockets are sitting at one of the worst odds to win the championship. There will be times when the Rockets seem ferociously competitive and other times when they look unsightly, but their chances of making the playoffs are slim, and making a long run to the finals falls in the realm of the impossible.
