Why Bet on the Browns?

After opening as 3-point favorites, the Browns spread on this Week 3 matchup swung down to -2.5 when the Titans crushed them in their home-opener. However, when health issues surrounding Le’Veon Bell, CJ. Mosley, and now Sam Darnold surfaced, Cleveland has shot up to 6.5-point road chalk.

It’s been a long time coming for the Browns to find themselves as a road favorite; in fact, it’s just their second time since 2015. However, after getting crushed by the Titans, Cleveland must correct some glaring holes in their offensive line. Baker Mayfield getting sacked five times, and bruising his hand, is unacceptable.

Cleveland did show some life on defense against the Titans, at least, they managed to get to Marcus Mariota four times and kept Tennessee to 2 for ten on third-down conversions.

Why Bet on the Jets?

The Jets are reportedly looking for a new kicker after Kaare Vedvik missed a field goal and extra-point attempts. His mistakes probably cost the Jets a win which is why head coach Adam Gase commented that “we were inept on offense.

What makes matters worse for the Jets in this game, is that Sam Darnold is out with mono. That means Trevor Siemian is going to lead the offense against the Browns, and I don’t think he’s going to make much of a difference on this Jets offense.

The Jets defense may come to the rescue though, and if they manage to play as well as they did against the Bills, they have a shot at pulling off an upset over the Browns.

Insider Prediction:  Though the 6.5-point spread is probably giving Darnold a little bit too much credit, the fact is the Jets are a mess. Even if the Browns aren’t that hot of a team either, at least, they’re better than New York.

Pick: Browns -6.5
