The MLB Rookie of the Year is an Award given every season to the two best rookie players in each one of the leagues. This prestigious award was created in 1940 by the BBWAA (Baseball Writers' Association of America) and continues to make the selection of the winners to this day. The RoY award was given originally to one player for the whole MLB, but since 1947 it has been awarded separately to one winner in the National League and one in the American League.

The selection process is conducted through a vote by 60 BBWAA members, two members covering every MLB team. Every eligible voter casts their vote for three players where first place is worth five points, second place three points, and third place one point. These points are tallied to determine the award winner. In case of a tie for first place, the award would be shared, which has happened once, in 1979.

There has been some controversy regarding the definition of a 'rookie,' as the criteria for rookie-eligible players' are currently set to any player with less than 130 at-bats, 50 pitched innings, or 45 days on any MLB team's active roster. This leaves out any background in other professional leagues, having several players with experience in the NPB (Nippon Professional Baseball) winning this award while not being 'true' rookies.

How to Bet on the 2023 MLB Rookie of the Year Odds

Betting on the MLB Rookie of the Year Odds on BetPhoenix.ag is an MLB Futures bet, as you select your choice for the AL Rookie of the Year Odds and the NL Rookie of the Year Odds, to be determined by the end of the MLB regular season before the postseason starts. This award is announced in October, and as with most season-long MLB Futures Odds, it's much better to lock in your MLB Rookie of the Year Odds as early as possible to take the best advantage of the early odds. As the season progresses, the odds will change considerably.

The Los Angeles Dodgers is the team that has produced the most Rookie of the Year winners, with 18. They are followed by the New York Yankees and Atlanta Braves with 9, the Oakland Athletics and Cincinnati Reds with 8, and The Baltimore Orioles and Minnesota Twins with 7. The Arizona Diamondbacks are the only team who has never produced a RoY winner.

The latest Rookie of the Year Award winners were Michael Harris II of the Atlanta Braves for the NL and Julio Rodriguez of the Seattle Mariners for the AL. Stay up to date with BetPhoenix.ag throughout the MLB Season for the latest odds, as they are updated constantly as the season progresses.
