Manny Pacquiao and Keith Thurman have a combined 90-7-2 record with 61 career knockouts and will collide in Las Vegas on Saturday with the WBC supremacy on the line. Let's take a look at what the odds reflect and what it says about this fight.
Taking Manny Pacquiao @ -150
Pacquiao, the current WBA (Regular) welterweight champion, seeks to add the WBA (Super) welterweight title to his collection.
Pacman crowned himself as the regular welterweight champ after defeating Lucas Matthysse via TKO in seven rounds in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia and consolidated his comeback to boxing.
Though Pacquiao entered his fight against Matthysse as the underdog, his next match versus Adrian Broner would see him the favorite, and he did not disappoint. After twelve grueling rounds, Pacman won by unanimous decision and allowed to keep his current title.
Facing Thurman, Pacman opened as the -141 dog at most books. But after a swing of sharp action, Pacquiao finds himself as the -150 favorite which is something to consider if you're planning to bet on the Filipino fighter.
Taking Keith Thurman @ +120
Thurman (29-0-1) is undefeated but looked rusty in a win over Josesito Lopez in January. Thurman did not fight for two years due to an injury, but having defeated Lopez, it nevertheless allowed him to retain his title.
Thurman comes into this bout looking to avoid playing into Pacquiao's gameplan and would instead lure Pacman into an all-out brawl. Thurman knows he's faster and stronger than Pacman and has mentioned that he wants to end Pacquiao's career for good.
Thurman will come out swinging for the fences, trying to deliver the knockout punch, knowing that if the fight goes to the distance, he has less of a shot a winning.
Prediction: While the numbers point to Thurman in several categories, it's tough to overstate Pacquiao's experience in the ring. However, if Thurman can knock Pacquiao off his gameplan and fights aggressively, he has a shot at winning.
Pick: Keith Thurman to win at +120
