Like every year, the Heisman Trophy immortalizes someone in history. It represents college football royalty, where all the hard work, determination, perseverance, and talent of the most outstanding player in the United States is recognized.

It's not a secret that both the trophy and its signature pose have become a synonym for college football success, but have you ever wondered how the Heisman Trophy Winner is decided?

Six distinct American regions, each with 145 voters, are used by the Heisman Memorial Trust to choose media professionals who cover college football. Total media votes after that come to 870. For each ballot, the voters can select up to three players, n.1, n.2, and n.3, in that respective order and give away three points, two points, and one point accordingly; the player with the overall most amount of points across all ballots will be the person awarded with the Heisman Trophy.

The Heisman and the A.P. Player of the Year awards recognize the best player. The prize is given for exceptional work that best exemplifies the pursuit of excellence while maintaining moral character.

Wagering on the Heisman Odds is a classic future bet, and you can make a large amount of money if you accurately predict the winner. That's why in BetPhoenix, we offer you the best Heisman Trophy Odds out there, and while we set you up with all the must-knows about these odds, you can sign up on our website to get started and have access to discounts and bonuses.

How To Read Heisman Trophy Odds

Identifying the players with plenty of tools and weapons around them, like good coaching and noticeable playmaking ability, can be overwhelming, but that's why we're here to help you. The Heisman Odds are available throughout the entire season at BetPhoenix, and understandably, fans and commentators are obsessed with the Heisman Trophy winner, given the intrigue surrounding the top players in the sport.

As they do with the NFL MVP award, quarterbacks frequently control the market of the Heisman Trophy Candidates. The front-runners, like Alabama, Clemson, and Ohio State, are typically national powers with potent offenses. However, no preseason favorites and only three of the top-three favorites have triumphed since 2008.

Favorites will likely start at 200 to 300, and it's not unusual to see the top 5 players listed as high as 15,000. Of course, the possibility of enormous profit initially attracts many fans to future bets.

Timing is essential when it comes to winning the Heisman Trophy Odds and considering the players themselves. Bettors frequently ponder whether it makes more sense to wager money upfront and take advantage of incredibly favorable odds or to hold off until later in the college football season when the situation will be more precise.

Both strategies, of course, have benefits and drawbacks. Placing your bet early is better if you are confident of your selection and will likely be kept from being swayed. Waiting until later in the season is strongly advised if you prefer to be more organized with your bets and do not personally own any top contenders.

Some things to consider in terms of timing are listed below:

  • You should take injuries into account. The most talented players are more exposed because they see the ball more frequently.
  • All through the year, the odds will change. We advise watching them all season long and acting quickly when you find a deal.

The following tips will help you locate which players to pay attention to. In BetPhoenix, we offer our Heisman Odds Tracker in case you're interested in being informed of any changes to the line throughout the college football season. And for you to have a better comprehension of how to read the Heisman Odds, here's an example:

In BetPhoenix, we display odds in the American format. Caleb William's odds had a minus (-) sign before the number when he broke away from the Heisman Trophy pack after the 2022 season (Caleb Williams - 1,600).

In other words, that means that a bettor wagered $1,600 to win $100 by betting on him. Another example would be Drake Nyke +1,000, which means that for every $100 wagered on Stroud, a bettor can profit up to $360.

Favorites to win the 2023-24 Heisman Trophy

The top five Heisman Trophy Candidates can be summarized:

1. Caleb Williams

Unsurprisingly, the current Heisman Trophy winner is the favorite to win it again. Williams threw for 4,919 yards and 52 total touchdowns during his outstanding season, which earned him the Heisman Trophy last year.

With Lincoln Riley as his coach and Williams' skill, they may take care of business throughout the season, and he cruises to victory.

No player has won the Heisman twice since Archie Griffin in 1974 - 1975, so he must contend with voting fatigue and extremely high expectations for a college quarterback. In Riley's second season, USC is anticipated to take part for a spot in the College Football Playoff, but the Pac-12 will be stronger and more talented than in Riley's first campaign.

2. Drake Maye

In his 2023 Heisman campaign, Maye encountered a significant problem where he ended up in 10th place.

He was the third-ranked player out of North Carolina and the ninth-ranked Q.B. in the country coming out of high school, so there needed to be more preseason hype. But it took time for his success to come.

After a fantastic rookie season in which he threw for 4,300 yards and thirty-eight touchdowns while also leading the Tar Heels in rushing with 698 yards, Maye is now the center of attention. He possesses the physical characteristics of recent Heisman Trophy winners, including a big arm, the ability to be a dual threat, and plenty of weapons to share the ball.

Maye will undoubtedly be a popular choice this offseason. Still, to unseat Williams and win the Heisman Trophy himself, he'll probably need to guide the Tar Heels to a 10-win campaign and compete for an ACC Championship. In Riley's second season, USC is also anticipated to compete for a patch in the CFP, but the Pac-12 will have more talent and depth than it did in Riley's first campaign.

3. Michael Penix Jr.

Arguably, nobody in the nation had a breakout season like Penix Jr. did last year. After suffering multiple knee injuries at Indiana, many believed he was doomed and that, at best, he would make an OK starter in the Pac-12.

Penix silenced the critics with an outstanding season in which he led Washington to an 11-2 record, the second-best mark in the nation, and 4,641 passing yards, which placed him 12th in the final College Football Playoff rankings.

Penix is returning to Washington for another season, which is somewhat unexpected; he can cap off his tumultuous career with a Heisman Trophy if he stays healthy, avoids regression, and takes advantage of the weak Pac-12 defenses.

4. Bo Nix

Nix has been a touchdown machine this season, scoring touchdowns on the ground and in the air. He has 20 passing touchdowns and 11 rushing touchdowns in eight games this season. His 31 touchdowns are just one fewer than Maye's, who leads the nation.

With at least three touchdowns in seven straight games, Bo Nix's scoring has also been very reliable. This run includes three contests with five touchdowns and a six-touchdown performance in last week's victory over Cal. It has become a recent trend for Heisman winners to score the most touchdowns in the nation.

5. Jordan Travis

Florida State is among the favorites to win the ACC and has one of the best quarterbacks in the country Jordan Travis, who guided Florida State University to its first 10-win season since 2016.

Travis has played in 35 games for Florida State over the last four years, and after a breakthrough campaign last year, he will make the most of his COVID year of eligibility. Travis had just five interceptions while throwing 3,214 yards and 24 touchdowns.

He is one of four players that are currently active with a career of 5,500 passing yards and 1,700 career rushing yards, which is always a major plus for a Heisman campaign. Additionally, throughout three seasons, he has scored seven rushing touchdowns.

He will need to post better counting stats this year, but if he can carry over his success into 2019 and Florida State wins the ACC, he will be playing in New York at the end of the year.

In conclusion, this season's top five Heisman Trophy candidates will make it very exciting. The way the fans support players and the teams is unique and special. College athletes are playing with passion and love of the sport, making it more thrilling to watch and exciting to wager on.

Who Was The 2022 Heisman Trophy Winner?

The 2022 Heisman Trophy was won by USC quarterback Caleb Williams last season, making him the first Trojan to win the sport's most prestigious individual award.

At the ceremony, Williams gave an acceptance speech, stating that its an honor for him to become part of this historic fraternity and that it is something that he will cherish the rest of his life, as well as recognizing that even though the Heisman Trophy is an individual award that is an achievement he wouldn't be able to accomplish on his own.

Following the 2021 season, he and Lincoln Riley both moved to USC, where they quickly helped the program turn around. Both Rileys had previously resided in Oklahoma. The Trojans had a 4-8 season in which coach Clay Helton was fired, but they bounced back in 2022 with an 11-2 campaign and a spot in the Cotton Bowl against Tulane, even though they were denied a place in the CFP (College Football Playoff).

Williams battled through a painful hamstring injury in the Utes game one weekend before receiving the award, throwing an interception late in the game and taking seven sacks. However, he still finished with 363 passing yards and three touchdowns. In addition, despite the injury, he even gained a first down with his legs in the fourth quarter.

Riley was confident of his quarterback choice before leaving for USC. The Trojans made a solid effort to sign players last offseason, including Williams, former Pitt wide receiver Jordan Addison, former Oregon running back Travis Dye, former Colorado wide receiver Brenden Rice, and former Oklahoma wide receiver Mario Williams.
