The 2022-2023 season will be the Detroit Lions' 93rd in the NFL and their second under head coach Dan Campbell and former Los Angeles Rams general manager Brad Holmes. The franchise was founded as the Portsmouth Spartans in Portsmouth, Ohio, and joined the NFL in 1930, relocating to Detroit in 1934 and taking the name Lions in reference to the city's Baseball franchise, the Detroit Tigers.

The Lions won four NFL Championships games from 1935 to 1957, before the Super Bowl era. Since then, they won a single playoff game in 1991, holding the league's longest postseason drought. They are the only original NFL franchise that has never won a Super Bowl. Together with the Cleveland Browns, the Houston Texans, and the Jacksonville Jaguars, they are the only franchises never to have made it to the Super Bowl.

The team has played its home games at the Ford Field Stadium in Downtown Detroit since 2002, naming rights in the name of the Ford Motor Company. The Ford family has held the ownership of the Lions franchise since 1963. Ford Field has a capacity of 65,000 seats, expandable to 70,000.

Over the years, the Lions have become known for posting far more losing seasons than trips to the NFL playoffs. The team's deepest playoff run was in 1991 when Detroit played in the 1991 NFC Championship. Wayne Fontes was that team's head coach, and running back Barry Sanders was the Lions' best player. Along with Sanders, players such as Matthew Stafford, Calvin Johnson, and Alex Karras had thriving NFL careers in Detroit.

Regardless of all the games lost over the years, fierce rivalries against the Green Bay Packers, Chicago Bears, and the Minnesota Vikings are some of the best in the league.

The Lions enter the 2022-23 season with plenty of hype after a vibrant appearance on HBO's "Hard Knocks," which has seen head coach Dan Campbell become an even more likable figure.

It helps that there are reasons for optimism on the field too. Detroit drafted Michigan standout Aidan Hutchinson in the first round and wide receiver Jameson Williams. Cornerback Jeff Okudah, Running back D'Andre Swift, and tight end T.J. Hockenson were also injured for much of last season. With so much potentially elite talent, there are reasons to believe the Lions could take a step forward this season. Of course, this season will all depend on the team's health and the performance of quarterback Jared Goff.

They open this regular season receiving the Philadelphia Eagles. Current lines have them as underdogs, with BetPhoenix listing the Lions at +4. The Lions Future Odds for Total Season Wins is listed for the season at 6.5.

How to Bet on the Detroit Lions

BetPhoenix.ag offers an exciting and highly lucrative way to follow and get the best Detroit Lions odds during the NFL season.

Placing your Detroit Lions bets on BetPhoenix thru the NFL football season can be a profitable and fun endeavor, particularly if you put in some time and research. This guide is just one of many helpful tools BetPhoenix offers to help you maximize your chances of winning when wagering on NFL games, from the preseason through the Super Bowl.

Detroit Lions Spreads

The points spread indicates the winning or losing margin. This is an example of a Detroit Lions Spreads line:

Team Points Spread Odds

Philadelphia Eagles -4 -110

Detroit Lions +4 -110

The Philadelphia Eagles are a -4 favorite against the Detroit Lions. That makes the Detroit Lions a +4 underdog. A negative value indicates the favorite, and a positive value indicates an underdog. A large spread of 6 or more means that one side is expected to perform better in this matchup.

When betting on the Detroit Lions spreads, in this case, +4, those who wager on the underdog, in this case, the Detroit Lions, hope they win, or that they lose by a margin of points smaller than the point spread. If the spread is positive (+4), that team must win, or lose by less than four points to cover it, so to cash in on the Eagles Spread -4 as the favorite, the negative spread team must win by a margin greater than four points to cover the spread.

  • Eagles win by 5+ points: Eagles bettors win
  • Eagles win by precisely 4 points: The bet is a push, and the wager will be canceled and refunded.
  • Eagles win by 1-3 points: Lions bettors win
  • Lions win the game: Lions bettors win

Detroit Lions Moneylines

The Lions Moneylines bet is the easiest and simplest bet in sports betting. You pick which side you expect will win the game. Negative odds are for favorites and positive for underdogs. Like the spread, a negative value indicates the favorite, and a positive value indicates an underdog. The Detroit Lions Moneyline is listed in BetPhoenix as follows:

Team Moneyline

Philadelphia Eagles -198

Detroit Lions +170

Moneylines use American odds based on a $100 bet. The amount you win or lose varies depending on the event because the odds are adjusted based on each team's or player's skill. The larger the Moneyline numbers indicate a bigger favorite or more significant underdog in the game. Using this example, the Detroit Lions Moneyline would result as follows:

  • Eagles Moneyline: If you wagered to win $100 by betting on the Eagles -198, you would need to risk $198.
  • Lions Moneyline: For every $100 wagered on the Lions +170, you would receive $170 if Detroit wins the game.

Detroit Lions Over/Under Totals

The Lions Totals bet is an estimated projected final score based on how we envision the game will unfold from a scoring perspective. Lions Totals are expressed in an Over/Under set, in which you pick if you expect this result to be over or under this estimate. The total points take into account both teams' scorings. The Lions Over/Under Totals are listed in BetPhoenix as follows:

Detroit Lions vs. Philadelphia Eagles Over/Under

  • Total: 48.5
  • Over odds: -110
  • Under odds: -110

For every $1.10 risked on either option, you'd win $1.

Detroit Lions Parlays

Lions Parlays is a wager type in which two or more bets are linked together to form a single bet with a higher payout. However, for the bet to win, all selections must win.

Betphoenix will increase your Detroit Lions Parlays payout as you add more games to your parlay because winning becomes less likely as you add more teams. You can combine point spreads, moneylines, over/under, player props, and other wagers. You can choose between favorites and underdogs.

Let's say you believe the Detroit Lions Spread (+4) and the Over (48.5) will cover their spreads. You may add more plays to the parlay, like the Baltimore Ravens -3.5 over the Miami Dolphins. You can parlay them together on a 3-team Lions Parlay, risking $10 for a payout of about five times your bet instead of risking $10 to bet on each separately (and earning close to $50 if all three picks are winners).

  • Lions Spread covers, Lions Over/Under covers, and the Ravens Spread covers. All bets cover: Win $59.58
  • Lions Spread is a push, Lions Over/Under covers, and the Ravens Spread covers. The push is canceled, and it becomes a 2-team parlay: Win $26.45
  • Lions Spread doesn't cover, Lions Over/Under covers, and the Ravens Spread covers: Loss ($-10)
  • Lions Spread covers, Lions Over/Under doesn't cover, and the Ravens Spread covers: Loss ($-10)
  • Lions Spread covers, Lions Over/Under covers, and the Ravens Spread doesn't cover: Loss ($-10)

It is considered a loss if the parlay selection contains any picks that result in a loss.

Detroit Lions Teasers

Like Parlays, Detroit Lions Teasers combine separate lines but adjust the point spreads to be more in your favor. Like a parlay, you need all your lines to hit in order to win your ticket; however, you can adjust the preset point spread or total lines to lower your risk.

Lions Teasers often start at 6 points and can go up to 6.5 and 7 points. The most common Teaser is the two team 6 points that pay the same as a regular -110 wager.

However, placing a Detroit Lions Teaser comes at a cost. Since teasers move the line so favorably in the direction of your choice, you are minimizing risk but also minimizing payout opportunities. Based on the Lions spread +4 and Lions total Over 48.5, a 7-point 3-team teaser would be as follows:

Detroit Lions vs. Philadelphia Eagles

  • Original Lions spread +4 with a 48.5 Lions Over/Under.
  • New adjusted like Lions spread +11 with a new over of 41.5 Lions Over/Under
  • Using the same example as in the parlay, let's add the Baltimore Ravens -3.5 over the Miami Dolphins, which adjusted is Ravens spread +3.5.

The Lions odds were originally a +4 point underdog against the Eagle with a Total of 48.5, and the Ravens were originally a -3.5 favorite. In a hypothetical case of the Lions losing 27-17 (+10/44), plus a Ravens win.

The Lions odds and Over failed to cover the original spreads but would have covered and won with the 3-team 7-point Teaser; they would cover the new +11 point spread and the Over 41.5 points.

Detroit Lions Prop Bets

It's fun to bet on the outcome of Lions games, but there are other ways to get involved. NFL Prop bets are one of the most exciting and common ways to do this. A single game or the entire season can serve as the inspiration for a prop.

Lions Prop Bets include season-long possibilities like who will have the most rushing yards, the most touchdowns, and who will be named MVP, Offensive Player of the Year, or even Super Bowl MVP.

You can access the available props for a game by clicking on the Live Lines Odds listing. There are lots of different Lions Prop Bets options to explore and choose from, including:

  1. Quarterback total yards (Over/Under)
  2. Will total points be odd or even?
  3. Will there be a 1-yard touchdown in the game?

The Lions Props bets odds can vary, and more options may be available as the season progresses. So take the time to keep checking Betphoenix.ag available props selections all year long to find what you want and get more bang for the buck on your winning bets.

These are just a few examples. NFL props can be numerous and even exceed 300 props for the Super Bowl.

Detroit Lions Futures Odds

You can obtain better odds and a greater chance of winning while reducing your risk by betting on futures, which allow you to choose winners and recipients of various NFL awards and honors in advance. The best odds on futures are typically found in the offseason before the regular season has even begun. This makes picking a winner for the Super Bowl or Most Valuable Player award before the season has even started all the more exciting.

Detroit Lions 2021-2022 Season Recap

The 2021 season was the Lions' 92nd season in the NFL, the 20th playing their home games at Ford Field and the first under the head coach Dan Campbell and manager Brad Holmes.

The Detroit Lions finished last in the NFC North with a record of 3-13-1 last season, the Lions' fourth straight last-place finish in the division.

Last year's poor results were harder to swallow than usual after replacing head coach Matt Patricia and quarterback Matt Stafford with head coach Dan Campbell and quarterback Jared Goff, who ultimately produced their worst campaign in years.

The Lions' offense was ineffective, ranking 25th in scoring with 19.1 points per game and 22nd in total offense with only 323 yards per game. However, their concerns are not limited to the offense. Their defense ranked 31st in points allowed with 27.5 points per game and 30th in yards allowed with 5.9 yards per play, numbers impossible to overcome for the offense.

The Detroit Lions have been one of the worst-performing teams in the league for several years. While Jared Goff is a much better quarterback than he typically gets credit for, the Lions have a slim chance to compete for a playoff spot if their defense continues to surrender nearly 30 points per game.
