The 2021-2022 season was the San Francisco 49ers' 76th season since their founding in 1946 and their 72nd season in the NFL. It's also their fifth under Head Coach Kyle Shanahan and General Manager John Lynch. In honor of their 75th anniversary, a commemorative anniversary logo was used this last season.
They significantly improved on their 2020-2021 season's 6–10 record with a post-season earning 10-7. They returned to the playoffs after only a one-year absence.
After an embarrassing home loss on Week 9 to an injury-torn Arizona Cardinals, the 49ers were sitting on an unsatisfactory 3–5 record. But the team found their stride in the second half of the regular season, winning seven of their last nine, including a win on Week 18 against the Los Angeles Rams, in which they came back from 17–0 to ultimately win 27–24 in overtime, earning them a last-second playoffs spot.
During this second half of the season, the 49ers showed a well-rounded team, finishing in the top 10 on both total offense and total defense. Their offense came in 7th in the league after averaging 376 yards and 25.1 points per game. Their defense performed even better, ending 3rd in the league.
